Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

How about,"change it out"? Is out needed?

Maybe it's a regional thing, but I cringe every time Amy pronounces cashew as cash shoe.  She says it every time.

@Biftu As opposed to "cash you"?

Be careful when picking on Amy.  Years ago I critiqued/criticized the way she said something and I got jumped on as people defended her because she supposedly has a speech impediment.  I don't know if she does or not, but that's what happened.

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

Well, it takes a huge mistake to rattle me.  My speaking and writing has become so much more "free flow", since I got out of college.  With all going on swirling around us, my attention is elsewhere.  Alas. See what I mean?

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

I've traveled to 48 states and other countries.

Every area has it's own way of pronouncing words. It is what it is and you can't change it. I can drive an hour from home and hear different pronunciations.

My dad had PhDs in English and History. He always told us to not be bothered over someone's speech. Not everyone has the ability or education. He said it's better to be kind and compassionate than word police.

Fyi.... The titled should be hosts correctly speaking.

Thank you.  I was a secretary and went to school for word processing, and was an English major.  I guess that is my reasoning.  People in public speaking should know how to speak correctly.

@luvmybeetle  I agree w/you.  I always liked English in school, was a scretary, too, and it drives me crazy the way some people speak.

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

@sunshine45    Similar to those who say "underneath of". It's redundant.   I hear some hosts say that and other things that are grammatically incorrect,  but i've decided that some things are just not worth getting irritated over.   I agree with another poster who said we shouldn't correct other people's speech.  Not everyone has had the benefit of a good education and in some cases it's a regional thing or just learned from hearing others say it.

I hate it when an apostrophe is used incorrectly ( host's vs. hosts).

@CalminHeart    Amen to your post especially the last sentence.

Re: Host's Speaking Correctly

I'm sorry, but in first grade we learn that "these ones", "those ones" and occasionally and even worse, "them ones" are incorrect.

It's not a nit picky thing; it makes one sound ignorant, especially if public speaking is your job.
