Besides everything already mentioned, I grab my laptop as I'm running out the door!
Hospitals are boring and they don't let you sleep!
I was watching QVC and shopping, LOL!
The bag stays in the car, already packed.
If no one mentioned a pack of crackers, I would add those too! Or a candy bar!

@Travone I've never needed candy and always get the best treatment everytime I'm in the hospital. On many occasions I heard the nurses saying I am their best patient. Two of them even said they don't even know that I am there.
They thought I was sleeping and couldn't hear them lol.

@KailaS wrote:I have one of these. I keep getting thrown in the hospital for emergencies. I have a charger, toothbrush and toothpaste, underwear, my own soap, shampoo, hand towel, small notepad and pen, list of meds, a lightweight coverup/ house dress, comb, tweezers, hard candy, a few dollars, and until recently, contact lens case and solution. (I now must wear eye glasses.) I almost always have my iPad with me, so I feel I can grab and go or even point and have someone else grab for me. lol
I already have directions hanging in my home for feeding my cats, so they will be okay short term if I can make one call. If I have time to plan, I also always grab a small travel pillow. That is a luxury.
@KailaS concerning the shampoo, soap and anything associated with water, most hospital use wipes that are heated. Some for the body and some for the private parts. I do not like them. I use my soap and wash up by the sink. Most hospital don't allow you to shower.
Sometimes I think the nurses are wondering why I smell of Dove soap.

I seea couple of posts listing pills and insulin. The hospital administers all medication, at least mine does. They need to track and chart all of it while under their care. Never asked me once if i had meds with ne. ( didnt). So you may want to find out if your hospital allows that, especially insulin...where would it be stored, how would they know its yours etc.

Did a posting about this a few years back and one of the posters derided me for caring about this. Can't think about anything that hasn't been mentioned.
@Group 5 minus 1 I thought everyone had a care bag. Everytime I was admitted to the hospital all I had to do was tell my husband where to find it.
Since he passed my nephew and sisters know where to find it. I check it often just to make sure that whatever I need is there.

@LizzieInSRQ all they need is a list of your medications.

@Sage04 Good for you! I've gotten the same reaction from nurses as to what a nice and good patient I am.
I have a bag ready and it has what I need. I don't take food or snacks as when I'm in the hospital I'm on a special diet.

My toothbrush, floss, mouthwash, facial cleanser, moisturizer, lip gloss. Body butter. Dry shampoo. PJ bottoms, a thick cardigan sweater. Socks. My Kindle. My phone. I have never had an emergency hospitalization. It's always been elective so I got to pack my own bag.

The hospital I stayed in does not stock Novolog. All the nurses I had told me after 53 years of diabetes they trusted me to use it as I saw fit. They underdose because of fear of hypos and my diabetes goes crazy therefore I learned to bring my own insulin @LizzieInSRQ . They did have Levemir so I did take theirs but I determined the dose.
Other meds are stored with your name on them. That was my experience.
