Oh, thank you all!  You included items I hadn't thought of (like a reading light).

I appreciate all the swift replies, too!

Pills, underware, phone chargers, house shoes, sox, robe, toothbrush, and that's about all you'll need.  Don't drag a bunch of stuff you won't use!

I keep a bag also with about 3 changes of clothes and more underwear in case my husband has to go to the hospital.  I went in with him and was there for 2 months once.  Friends came and took dirty clothes and washed them.  We had just moved and everything was in chaos.

This one is kind of "funny."  I was very sick in the hospital for 11 days in the summer of 2022.  Believe it or not -- I had a reaction to an antibiotic that resulted in inflammatory pneumonia.  VERY rare.  (My doctor said it was something you learn about in med school that never happens.)  When I had a fever over 104 degrees and was on cooling blankets I didn't care about anything.  When I started feeling better -- I realized that I didn't have a tweezer or a Flawless for chin hairs!  They are both now staples in my handbag!!

A nurse once gave me this tip and I've passed it along to friends and it works.  Bring small candies, chocolates are best.  Leave them out and you will get great attention from the nurses.  Something small that they can just pop in their mouths.

A bag of Hersheys Kisses works great! You won't have to ring for a nurse again!

They're always stopping by for a Kiss!

@Travone I find that hilarious for the following reason: I have a chronic problem that causes me to be in the hospital 2-3 times a year for 3 days.

I've never had to bribe the wonderful nurses at my hospital who are all kind, friendly and extremely good at their job. They are absolute treasures and couldn't be any nicer to me!

@candyagain

I just came home from a lunch gathering of about 12 gals from my '62 graduation class.  I laughed out loud when I read your post about the chin hairs.

One of our witty friends said she was losing her eyelashes but gaining replacement chin hairs, lol !

I have one of these ready to go. Hubbs knows where it is located.

Did a posting about this a few years back and one of the posters derided me for caring about this. Can't think about anything that hasn't been mentioned.

Another thought - take something so you can be productive while there. Off the top of my head - a small pack of thank you cards so you can write them to those helping while you're down (ie the person feeding your pets, etc). Or a small journal (writing is therapeutic) so you can either make a list of things you're grateful for, start/continue your personal history and/or write poems or short stories.
