I look back at how young Dr. King was at the time of his death.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

39 ... it's amazing how much he accomplished in just this short time ... I've often wondered whether he was afraid ... those were such violent times. I still cry for him.

I'm sure MLK had moments of fear, but his determination certainly towered over any fear he may have felt. When determination to do the right thing leads the way, all else is diminished and conquered.

I agree and I also think his strong belief and faith in God sustained him as well.

He is someone to whom God surely said "Well done good and faithful servant."

I mentioned this on the other thread but I find it disturbing that the day isn't even acknowledged in some states......Wisconsin being one of them. Our mail won't come today. That's about it. The local news channels don't ever bring it up unless there is something national that has to be reported on.

can you believe that this day was deemed unnecessary by some back when congress was voting for it? some even used ""costs"" as the reason not to support it.

Quote of the day! Thank you, Emma. I truly loved this man. I wish we had a couple of billion more who thought like he did.

That's a shame. The largest peace march in the country for MLK takes place in San Antonio, Tx with an estimated 100,000 people. The march is actually in its 27th year. Along with the MLK Commission, there have been events going on since Friday.

I wonder why Wisconsin doesn't do more?

More quotes:

We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but wher...

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

It was a hard-fought victory and I applaud those in Congress who didn't let it die.
