This is absolutely crazy!! Last night after reading this thread I signed off then went to watch TV. All of the sudden I hear a VERY LOUD THUD but I didn't know where the loud thud came from. Thinking no more about it I went into my bedroom to get ready to go to bed, turned on the light and OMG the rod holding up my hoard of clothes in my closet broke away from the wall!! Screws holding the rod supports came completely out of the wall!

Well that just does it...no more clothes for me! Ya think I had too many clothes hanging on the rod??!! Well obviously someone was telling me I did...LOL!Woman LOL

Some kind of 'sign' wasn't it? Made me laugh!

Re: Honesty, Please -- Amount of Clothing Question

I think I have accumulated too much.

My (two) bedrooom closets are completely full and I have taken over part of the guest room's closet.  I have bins of old clothing stored in the attic. I have built in shelving, in my bedroom, wihich holds all my (twenty?) pocketbooks.

That is the legacy of who I was.  Now, I don't acquire stuff that doesn't have an awesome rate of return on wear.

I am downsizing but it takes time to sort and figure out where to take it.   My hope is to get down to one closet.

Re: Honesty, Please -- Amount of Clothing Question

I used to have a lot more clothes, but now all my clothes are in one closet (not walk-in) and 3 dressers. I still have plenty of choices and own more than I need, but right now I am satisfied with my wardrobe.

Working, I guess I have a larger amount.  I need to have options for the weather and when other things are in the laundry.  I have a large walk in closet where I have shoes in boxes, handbags, jeans and tees for home on two shelves.  The rack is slacks, skirts, a lot of jackets, and holiday wear.

The items that get the hardest use are on a floor to ceiling set of shelves and a small rack and I have a scarf rack from Ikea that holds 32 scarves!

We don't have a big dresser.  I have a big crystal vanity from my grandmother with six drawers for underwear, socks, and tights.  We also have an antique drop center dresser where DH has jeans and underwear.

I do consign, and my items sell quickly!!!

I never got into handbags, working.  I don't need more than a few for going out.  My work bag just needs to be functional.

When I worked for Belk, I loved Brahmin handbags, but they were so heavy, I couldn't carry them.  I went into an upscale consignment shop and there sat a beautiful BLACK! Brahmin clutch handbag with my name on it!  Whoopie!Smiley Happy

Most of my clothing budget goes for Spring.Summer apparel.  I dislike cold weather, so only buy what I really need in the Wintertime.  So, I'd say i have too many warm weather outfits and an adequate Winter wardrobe.

Re: Honesty, Please -- Amount of Clothing Question

I am ashamed of myself (just gave 5 large bags of clothes to a dear friend), and still ashamed.   Over the past 2 years, I purchased 200 huggable hangers to redo my closets, and they are all being used.   I recently retired, so now I only need jeans and a few tops.  What was I thinking?

Re: Honesty, Please -- Amount of Clothing Question

Well after my closet rod fell off the wall last night, I had to do something! I just freed up 75 Huggable hangers and I have a pile of clothes to get out the house. It was a painful process to let go of some things.  Now I've got to get that rod back up on the wall...oh dear. Woman Indifferent

My house has very limited storage space.  I have a small closet for weekend clothes and a small closet for work clothes.  Each about 5 feet long by 2 feet.

I like buying clothes, and cull twice a year.  I send my sister clothes I haven't worn much that I think she would like to wear, and I give the others to a charity serving unemployed people trying to put together work wardrobes.

I love clothes, but have limited space and I also like new things, so I must get rid of anything I don't regularly wear.  Shoes or clothes.  Several of my nieces have the same size foot as I do. My sister and I aren't identical but quite similar. She often can wear colors I find don't work on me (my most frequent error in internet shopping).

So ... I don't have too many clothes, because I curate them.

Do I buy clothes and shoes?  Oh, yes, on sale, usually.  But then if they don't work out aftter a year or so for whatever reason (meaning I don't use them on a regular basis) they don't stay in my house.

Especially if I still like them but find they don't get worn, I will send them to someone who can wear them.

Re: Honesty, Please -- Amount of Clothing Question

I KNOW I have way too much stuff---clothes, shoes, purses, and am purging like crazy now. If I haven't worn it in a year---out it goes!!!! And getting rid of 2 things for every one thing I bring in the house. That helps me alot when I THINK I need to buy whatever----do I NEED it or do I WANT it. I NEED food---I want more shoes---big difference.

Re: Honesty, Please -- Amount of Clothing Question

@SAM55,   I am retired so 98% of my clothes are casual.  I can't remember the last time I wore a dress.  It's pants, jeans, nice tee shirts, blouses, cardigans for my regular wardrobe.  I am in the process of weeding clothes out and donate.  Half the time your end up wearing the same 4 or 5 pairs of pants over and over and I definitely change my tops more.  Now I can add a cardigan or light jacket but next week we are going back up to the mid 80's.  I have plenty of shoes and ankle boots.  I love a good leather handbag - Kate Spade, Coach).  I guess it just makes us feel good to have something new.  A tee shirt, blouse whatever it is lifts your spirits.  I know it always lifted my spirits to wear something new.  I hate when women stop caring and no longer wear makeup (not even a little) and don't care how they dress.  That is certainly not me.  I still wear some makeup and love to look nice.  Cat Very Happy
