Have I posted anything that is untrue? People enjoy the feeling of giving to the less fortunate, it allows them to see themselves as a good person along with the unmentionable, superior.

There is no solution. Jesus said over 2,000 years ago "the poor will always be with us" and that proves to be true today.

Poverty is one thing - and it will always be with us -- but homeless children is totally another thing altogether. Children not having at least one meal a day and a safe place to sleep is totally another. Clearly, private charities are not able to keep up with the needs.

I don't see the difference.

I don't know. Like I said this was all new to the paperwork we fill out. We also, a couple of weeks later, fill out another piece of paper . . . which has to do with funding and whether one or both parents work on federal property and/or live on federal property and if you are a tribe member of Native Americans or qualify for inclusion based on certain criteria. And this isn't an alternative school.

That paper was for federal funding. Schools receive more monies from the federal government if a parent works on federal property and even more if the parents live on federal property. IE, live on a military installation. Real estate taxes are not paid on homes that are on federal property so the government has a formula to make up for that.

That form is standard around the nation.

After this year, I'm only giving to charities that help children. Food and medical. Not even toys.

I have a HUGE STACK of envelopes from about 15-20 different charities on my table at home. I've committed to most of them for years. I guess charities sell my name and addresses to other organizations. I can't possibly donate to all of them every year and some are totally a waste to me (I'm not a bird watcher!)

I believe WE are the government. Our government can pick and choose what to fund and what not to fund. Out of our own pockets we can fund what we pick and choose to fund. Either way, the charities of OUR choice will benefit from our money. Be it from taxes or our hearts.

I guess I'm slow (lol), because I didn't get that play on words until you made the reference. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

So Helen, From your post... It's okay for people to be poor and homeless? Jesus said there was no solution over 2,000 years ago? I think you made that up. In a country so wealthy, it's an abomination.

What part of "the poor will always be with us" do you disagree with? Are the poor a thing of the past or are they still with us?
