There are homeless shelters for people and foster care for children whose parents can't or won't provide care for them.

That this person would take issue with the shelters and care given to animals who are the result of careless, inhumane people and are at least as deserving as any person or child is appalling.

What a grandstander looking for his 15 minutes, donations, and maybe even a shot at a CNN grant.

Shame on you !!! He is simply trying to raise awareness. What is wrong with you?

I'm not as gullible as some. We don't need him to make us aware of the homeless, no one could possible be unaware that they exist. Those who are truly charitable don't broadcast their good works.

I agree.

OMG. Foster kids age out of the system at 18 and end up on the streets. It is a national disgrace. It is very difficult for these kids to be successful in life.

I have a good friend who passed away a few years ago - he had grown up in an orphanage from age 3 until 14 then was placed in foster care until his 18th birthday. On his 18th birthday he enlisted in the Army because he had no where else to go, and that was what he was told he should do. He said he doesn't know what he would have done if it weren't for the Army because the foster family told him he had to leave on his birthday.

I was really surprised at some of the questions on the registration papers I had to fill out for son at the beginning of this school year. Same school district. This was new. I've been filling out paperwork at the beginning of the school year for going on 15 years now. Some of the questions were . . . Do you have a home? Do you live in a car? Do you live with other adults that are related or not related to you? Do you anticipate not having somewhere to live in the next 30 days? Not the exact questions, as I don't remember them word for word. So here, they must be trying to identify which kids may need additional help and they (the students) and their families might be falling through the cracks in the system, but they seem to be trying to identify, locate and hopefully direct them to more assistance and help.

It's been a long time since I worked in an alternative school, but what you don't want is students enrolling and then not attending school. It was all about funding based on enrollment. I suspect that is why questions such as those listed above are being asked.

No one wants to pose a solution?

I worked with homeless teens in Detroit trying to stay in school and possibly head for college. Many had parents who simply abandoned them to head for greener pastures.

What's disgraceful is that a person who has had the benefit of a free public education, free government money in the form of grants to attend college or a trade school doesn't take advantage of them.

Then there are those who come to our country, some legal some not, who don't even speak English but support themselves and manage to make a success of their lives without our help.

There is no solution. Jesus said over 2,000 years ago "the poor will always be with us" and that proves to be true today.

I don't know. Like I said this was all new to the paperwork we fill out. We also, a couple of weeks later, fill out another piece of paper . . . which has to do with funding and whether one or both parents work on federal property and/or live on federal property and if you are a tribe member of Native Americans or qualify for inclusion based on certain criteria. And this isn't an alternative school.

Poverty is one thing - and it will always be with us -- but homeless children is totally another thing altogether. Children not having at least one meal a day and a safe place to sleep is totally another. Clearly, private charities are not able to keep up with the needs.
