There is a man who is a teacher who is traveling around Florida living like and with the homeless. He was interviewed tonight on the news. He is just trying to raise the awareness of the plight of the homeless - especially the ever growing number of homeless children. He said How can we leave children to live in the woods homeless when we provide shelters for dogs and cats ? I so deeply agree with him. Not only are these poor kids without a home and a meal to eat but they are missing out on getting their education as well. How will they ever function as adults when they have missed so much school?

It's very sad indeed. We must do something because the problem is only getting worse.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

If the homeless voted then the government would help them but since you can't vote unless you have an address - and those in Washington ONLY CARE about getting votes or money for their campaigns this segment of our society is ignored. No matter how many homeless there are out there the government at all levels does NOTHING to help them.

I was really surprised at some of the questions on the registration papers I had to fill out for son at the beginning of this school year. Same school district. This was new. I've been filling out paperwork at the beginning of the school year for going on 15 years now. Some of the questions were . . . Do you have a home? Do you live in a car? Do you live with other adults that are related or not related to you? Do you anticipate not having somewhere to live in the next 30 days? Not the exact questions, as I don't remember them word for word. So here, they must be trying to identify which kids may need additional help and they (the students) and their families might be falling through the cracks in the system, but they seem to be trying to identify, locate and hopefully direct them to more assistance and help.

This teacher said that children are the fastest growing demographic among the homeless. It is great to hear that someone is paying attention.

There are homeless shelters for people and foster care for children whose parents can't or won't provide care for them.

That this person would take issue with the shelters and care given to animals who are the result of careless, inhumane people and are at least as deserving as any person or child is appalling.

What a grandstander looking for his 15 minutes, donations, and maybe even a shot at a CNN grant.

I'm not as gullible as some. We don't need him to make us aware of the homeless, no one could possible be unaware that they exist. Those who are truly charitable don't broadcast their good works.

Our elected officials know we have a homeless population - be it vets or families.

The homeless do not have to vote to get them to actually take care of our fogotten citizens. We know the problem exists; and I thank anybody who takes the time to bring awareness of this very sad situation to the forefront.

Giving on any level on our part is always a start.
