Like most here, I'd make sure the kitchen and bathrooms were spotless and the rest of the house dusted ,swept or vaccumed. I'd clean the carpets (if you need to) after. Just try to relax and enjoy your company, the holiday and your home. Just like these boards, if someone's going to pick, they will no matter what. The others just want to enjoy themselves.

I think my house is clean all the time - not necessary to do any deep cleaning before guests come.  Of course kitchen, baths, dust, vacuum, but thils is normal cleaning done all the time, not just for special occasions.

So I don't see a reason for extra cleaning.  Deep cleaning is moving out furniture, cleaning kitchen cabinets, washing curtains, windows, cleaning closets - certainly no need for any of this before guests.

As far as carpet cleaning, I have mine done professionally once a year and that is plenty with regular vacuuming.  Over cleaning is not good for the wear of your carpet.  Clean spots as they occur.  Of course if your carpet gets especailly dirty for some reason - have it cleaned more often.

Me and my best friend live close by. Our Christmas parties alternate at each other's place since we have a lot of common friends. But party or no party my deep cleaning with carpet, couches, and curtains only starts post the celebrations. For the past two years its been on 2nd Jan...sort of a new-year-beginning ritual.

There's no way I would want Stanley Steemer in my house this week or next week.

If I were having a party, I would make sure there were no cobwebs or dust.  I wouldn't get into curtains and windows and walls and all that stuff.

I would do my normal cleaning then deep clean afterward. Actually, I only DEEP clean once a year , in the spring.

Just do this and put plastic all over the floors.
