@haddon9 I'd be gracious, keep the turn table & album, be grateful, and say nothing about wanting to give it back. Is having a turn table worth risking hurting your brother's feelings? He made it such a kind & thoughtful gift.
Sometimes we need to know how to receive as well as how to give.

I totally agree!
Also, reiterate how lovely and thoughtful the gift was, and that you're sure your daughter will enjoy it more than you would.

I would find a place for it, buy a table if needed. Never would I even consider, chance hurting my brother's feelings. I care more about him than I care about space.

@haddon9 wrote:@Hoovermom Yes he does live near me. It's not like taking out something that merely has to be plugged in. If it were that simple I would do what you suggested.
It has to be set up and connceted with speakers and a reciever we just don't have anyplace to do that.
Ask your brother to come over and help you set it up.That way he can see the issues first hand and understand. It wont hurt feelings.. He may end up taking back and it being his own idea even.. Do this soon tho. You can even say "I want to mention this in case this needs to be returned in time...I can't find an area for this and I dont have the components to use this, what do you think, any suggestions?"
No silly faking or lying needed. Truth but in a compassionate way. Win-Win.

In curious why you still have all the albums?
I don’t think his assumption was a stretch based on you saying you still have many albums.
I agree not to lie and pretend you are using it. 💕
@bikerbabe Why? Fond memories of my youth. I worked in a record department in 1973 & 74. I also went to a lot of concerts back in the 1970s and these are a reminder. As for the music, I have Sirius radio or can download music to my phone and then put it through speakers. Sometimes I just listen though the computer.
I also mentioned that since I no longer used my old turntable, I gave it to my daughter.
People hold on to all sorts of things they may no longer use.

@haddon9 Oh my, so sorry. I'd probably just be honest. Or offer it to your daughter. Especially since you need more components.
Need a laugh? My mother baked bread for 40 years. Many years ago, doesn't my brother buy her a bread machine as a Christmas gift. She told him directly, that minute, it's going back. It was a big family joke for many years. He meant well, it didn't go over well. We loved HER bread.
