You have every right to your feelings, but being honest is no longer wanted. We are meant to say what is proscribed aka lie. When I see those who would qualify as obese, I feel sympathetic, especially if they are teenagers.

@occasionalrain  Yes, I feel sympathetic for those who qualify as obese, too.  There is a woman much younger than me (that I love very much) and she is having so many problems due to her weight. I know how hard it is to maintain a normal weight so I empathize but I guess I would never see myself as "model material" and I'm not so sure that is a good thing. If my honesty on this subject is judging.....well, I can readily say.... I'm far from perfect.

I don't think you meant to sound judgy but I don't think people are accepting of it. As far as kids are concerned, I think mostly it's a lack of moving that causes weight issues. It can probably be really hard for parents to keep kids moving these days unfortunately.
As far as adults go, there have always been and will always be different sizes of ppl. Poor health isn't always strictly limited to overweight individuals. Many smaller ppl have health concerns.
I do appreciate the fact that you don't like your size and I hope that you attain your goals. But as the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't particularly like the way I look either but keep in mind it's possible to be a larger size and also regularly exercise and eat right. Some ppl are not meant to be small and to constantly monitor everything you eat and constantly battle to keep under a size that your made to think you OUGHT to be can be exhausting.
But I'm glad that you posted your opinion. Differing op's and accepting ppl are different from ourselves is healthy. Good luck on your weight loss 👍

I, like many of us, grew up in a white neighborhood, attended all white schools. The only exposure I had to people unlike myself were the Arabs who owned the tobacco store I visited with my father on Saturdays. They fascinated me. I admired the way they could effortlessly switch between Arabic and perfect English. I loved the store's aromatic scents. I loved going there.

Then, I might have thought to compliment them, now I would be concerned they'd find it condescending. Now, I'd say nothing.

My circle is woke. Friends, relatives, coworkers. In fact the opposite- of- woke people I know or have contact with is almost zero.
I don't know political affiliation of most of these people, but I do know they are respectful of differences in capability, gender, race, social and financial status, appearance, etc. It's called living in civilized society and I'm glad to be part of wokeness. If that's the new descriptor for "don't be a self centered grouch".

No, it just means that someone's definition of "woke" is probably inaccurate.   These days it seems a lot of people use terms and don't really understand what they mean.

Just fyi, this is the most accurate definition I've seen:

Wokeness is just good manners, respect for others, and human empathy. It includes things like addressing people as they prefer to be addressed, good citizenship, caring about other people even if they are very different than or unconnected to ourselves, considering the consequences of our actions on other people, and basically not just plowing our way through life as rude and selfish.
