Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

I've gone to most of mine and, IMO, they got less fun as the years went by. The most fun was the 20th. I went to the 50th a couple of years ago and left within an hour. There's discussion to just have a picnic gathering next time. I think that may be okay so I may go. Not sure, yet. I think you should go because if you don't there's no way to go back.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

I went to my 40th high school reunion and a few small gatherings in between and it was not a good time.I thought we had all grown up and could act like adults, but I was wrong. The people who didn't like you then, still don't like you. I could not believe how hard it was for these people to make small  talk, let alone discuss any thing of a personal nature. The cliques that existed in high school were still active at these gatherings and the people I  hoped would show up never appeared. My 50 th comes up in 2018 and if I'm alive I'm not going and of course if I'm dead it won't be an issue. LOL

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

We will be up for our 50th in 2 more years. Our class has been having mini-reunions every other year. I live in a small rural area in west Michigan & we've been having our reunions at one of our classmates who lives on a river & has a very nice outdoor living space as well as a large outbuilding for parties. (The reason we've been having them every other year is that we are losing more classmates every year.) I went again this past fall to the 2016 reunion & found it very clicqish (sp?). I think it depends on the people who are there. People all say hi to you, but then many people only talk to their buddies from high school. I tried to visit with everyone, especially the spouses of classmates who felt out of place. I am facebook friends or E-mail those that I care to communicate with on a regular basis; other than that, I don't much care if I go to another reunion.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

My husband and I graduated the same year. Our 50th reunion was a few years ago. We live in the same area. He wanted to go I didn't. We ended up going. I have to say I had a really good time. Saw many old friends. Made some new ones. DH had ok time. Whatever you decide will be right for you.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

I actually attended two different high schools - and just attended both 50th reunions...have to say I had a wonderful time at both...

At one, the "popular" clique of girls stilll sat together but they all live in the area and still get together frequently.

I had not been to one of the reunions since the 15th and had not been to the other since the 20th...

I was not one of the "popular crowd" - just a nice smart girl who tried to be friendly to all...have to say, I had a blast at both...

I think it depends on the attitude you  bring with you!!

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

I went to one recently, and it was fabulous!  The best one so far.  I had a very large graduating class, and many former classmates live far away now, but we had a big turn-out because lots of us traveled to be there.

I knew I wanted to go, and expected to have a good time (because that's my attitude - if I go somewhere, I expect to enjoy it), but it ended up being so much more fun than I had anticipated.  Months later, we're all still talking about how great it was and encouraging those who weren't there to come next time.

I don't think it's a lot of fun for spouses, though.  I met a few, and they were very nice, but most of the time seemed to be pretty bored.  Personally, I would rather not be worried that my husband/boyfriend/whoever might not be having a good time.  So I highly recommend letting them stay home - or back at the hotel - so they can do something they would enjoy rather than having to make small talk with strangers.

I know that not everyone feels this way (my own sister doesn't), but I love connecting with people from my past.  I loved where I grew up, feel fortunate to have had the upbringing that I had, and I enjoy being with people from back then.  Btw, @Yardlie, I wasn't one of the "cool kids" either.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

@NYC Susan  I feel the same way. I recently went to my 40th high school reunion.  I'd never been to a reunion before, since I moved far away from where I attended school.

about six months before the reunion, our class got its own own Facebook group so we all got reacquainted. I had no expectations, but had so much fun!

Many of us had reconnected thru Facebook too - some years ago, others more recently.  And we had a reunion page on Facebook also .The end result was that there wasn't as much, "So what have you been doing the past few decades?" talk.  Because in many cases we knew, had seen photos of grandchildren, knew where former classmates were now living, which classmates had married each other, etc.

Even the people who hadn't connected previously on Facebook had a good time.  There was so much positive energy in the room.  We're still all sharing photos via email, etc,

I'm so glad you enjoyed yours too!  :-)

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

Our Facebook reunion group continues to post as well.  Some of the classmates who still live in the area are now having monthly dinners together.  If I'm in the area when one is scheduled, I'd love to join them!
