@Scooby Doo ... How much money they have???? Wow! I wouldn't go to that reunion either. What a shallow question.

No interest what so ever...prefer to live in the present moment.

That's what it was like in that school.  And that's the only reunion that I attended.  They gave out prizes to the ones who had the most.

Ugh...I can't believe my 50 year class reunion is coming up. The only reunion I went to was my 10 year. At that time, I said I wasn't going to anymore until my 50 year...and here it comes already! How did that happen so quickly? Smiley Surprised

I'm really not sure that I want to go. I keep in touch with four friends that I went to high school with. My class had about 300 students. I was just a studious, quiet student who took part in some extra-curricular activities in high school. However, I wasn't one of the "cool kids." I only went to one college reunion too. I would hope that by the 50 year reunion people would have outgrown their little cliques.

What has been your experience with class reunions...especially after 40 or 50 years? Thanks!

@Yardlie

I'm surprised at the number of people who go because they think they "ought" to go, even if it's an expensive trip to get there ....  I wonder why.   Many don't look back at high school as a top life experience, so why punish yourself?

if you keep in touch with many classmates, go.   If not, why not take yourself & a friend (or SO) on a lovely cruise?   JMO

Brinklii, I went to my 50th last Fall, with the one friend I've managed to maintain constant contact with from those long-ago high school years.  I moved away from that area at age 17 and never really came back. I think it does help to attend with someone in the class.

Perhaps if I'd stayed all along, I would not have been so curious to see if people still match my memories of them.  I had a wonderful time, and I think my old friend did, too.

We both attended an informal meet-up about 5 years ago that was a little more difficult, as I encountered a hostile ex-classmate--but that too was wonderful, as (this was the reason I attended)  someone I had known since primary school was ill, a lovely person, and I just wanted to talk to him.  It was worth it for that.  He did very well with the serious illness he had, but didn't make it to the 50th.

If you still live in your hometown, you are probably still sufficiently in touch with old times.  If, like so many of us, you've been away for a long time, it can be wonderful to test old memories against current realities.

I am in touch now with several in the class who were not friends at all when we were in high school.  We just got to talking and discovered common interests.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

My husband has gone to ALL of his.  He LOVES them.  One year, our older son was getting married a few weeks before his reunion.  He was showing me different outfits he planned to wear, and I thought he was talking about the wedding weekend.  NO!  HIS REUNION!!!!!!

He went to his 50th a couple of years ago and came back saying how old everyone was!!!  HAHA!  He still had a wonderful time.  He is now wondering if there will be a 55th.

His high school is about 500 miles from here, and I grew up in a totally different area of CA.  He goes alone, and I think that is part of his fun.

I am not interested in reunions.  I kept up with my friends I wanted to continue knowing, and that is enough.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

I have gone to my 20th, 30th, 40th and in 2 years I will be attending my 50th.  My class also had a little over 300 students and like you, I was a smart kid but not one of the "cool" kids.  I too keep in touch with 4 or 5 of my classmates.  Each of my past reunions have been the same and I doubt that my 50th will be any different.  All of the cliques still hang together.  It's really funny watching a 65 year old past cheerleader trying to look cool.  They sit together, eat, together, dance together and come and go together.  I enjoy going just to watch the pathetic show.  But I must say, these girls don't look the best.  Go and have a blast.  At least it will be worth a good laugh.

Re: High School Class Reunion Coming Up

I still live in the same town I lived in as a teenager. I have been to all of our reunions and have been on the committee numerous times. We have always gotten along quite well, even though there were the ever present cliques. I'm on the 60th committee to be held in 2019. Once a month 12 to 16 of us go out for lunch.

There were only 126 in our class, so that might account for our successful reunions. We all new each other fairly well.

A lot of us went to college and came back to the area. We love PA!

@Yardlie

This year would be my 60th reunion, but! I quit high school in my my junior year. I then went back for 1 semester after my class had graduated(my girlfriend's mother made me), kinda. Haven't been to a single reunion. I did however go with my wife to her 10th. We went to the same High Schools?

Then I decided to join the United States Army and get that out of the  wway. Draft was still in effect in those years. While in the service I got my GED. Not much about high school worth me remembering.
