I still think the greatest addiction in this country, bar none, is alcohol, and people have supported its sale and consumption forever, even when they know its effects on our bodies, our medical coverage, our roads and highways, etc. Plus, it is so easy to get, for all ages. As far as the "genius" who grouped birth control pills in the same category as narcotics? Total asinine non sequitur.

Well that was political.

MY comment?

No. I don't make remarks like that. I meant the "genius" who grouped birth control pills into the same category as narcotics. THAT was political.

We just went to a wake and funeral for a boy who was 21 and OD'd. Very sad. His parents and siblings are heartbroken. He has been dealing with addiction for several years. Starting smoking pot in high school.

And they say marijuana doesn't lead to more drug abuse of worse drugs. Perhaps not always, but IMO, often.

Imagine losing one's son for no good reason at the age of 21. OMG.

I don't care what anyone says, I believe it is a gateway drug.

It may be for some. There will always be people looking for a bigger better high.

Re: Heroin addiction in Ocean County, NJ

Spent the last 25 yrs of my career in the d&a field. It's all been a huge problem for many, many years. In my area it's only being recognized recently. Too many would rather say it happens but not in our area. It's finally become such a huge problem that we can no longer deny it. Whatever the drug, it's eventually deadly when addiction is involved. Have seen it over and over.
