Tried this earlier and it never showed up here?? I've been hearing a lot about pet owners NOT using Heartgard. I'm considering this also. Something else I'd like to know is if any of you use the flea/tick drops from Walmart on your pets, and if so, do they seem to work as well as Vet acquired ones? TIA

Hi Pammie-
Although I don't know much about this technically, I DO know what my vet (and, more recently, my dog groomer) said to me about Frontline. My dog had a terrible problem with allergies about a year ago (and off and on since he was a puppy, really.) Vet said that Frontline was somehow not working that great during that particular season. Said that many people, including himself, had pets that were getting fleas despite their use of Frontline. I am totally blanking on the brand of flea preventative I use, but it is sold at PetSmart and I think I got the recommendation here. It's with the other flea stuff, comes in a white box. And the applicator is a little tube that you snip the top off of.
About the Heartguard, I don't know. Hoping I can bump this and see if someone with more info will reply.

I haven't heard anything about pet owners stopping the use of Heartgard. I give it to my dog every month. I have heard (read) that Frontline isn't all that great. When we first got our dog, I gave him Comfortis for a few months, until I read here about dogs dying from it. I got scared, quit using it and, based on the recommendation of my groomer, went with K-9 Advantix II. It works great for my dog. We live in a wooded area and he's never bothered by anything - fleas, ticks, gnats, mosquitos. They'll buzz around, but they never land on him.

thank you, Louise and glma,,,was hoping I'd hear something here. I've also talked to the vet since yesterday and she warned me about Frontline too. Seems the fleas become immune. How nice, huh?! Thank you again for the info. I too have used the 'thin white tube' and even went thru the garbage (how often do we do that?) for the container, but I'm pretty sure it was what glma had mentioned. good luck to all! and thank you both again.

My dog was exposed to ticks even though we used Frontline. My Vet does the shot and Frontline for her dogs, so that is what we are doing for our Labradoodle. We live near a woods and walk rails to trails. It now seems to be working. Fortunately he is young and the kidneys were not affected.
