QVC U.S. CEO Claire Watts Exits Network

Wowser — there’s trouble in West Chester, Pa.: Claire Watts has resigned as chief executive officer of QVC’s U.S. network, effective Friday, “to pursue other opportunities.”
That last couple of words is a catch phrase that reporters interpret as “it was not her choice.”

I read the piece and can't believe the article ran about her in the WSJ and in less than a month she's supposedly fired. Maybe Homeshoppingista has this one wrong. I hope she's not ill, G-d forbid.

I read this on yahoo finance and tomorrow is her last day.

With the changes over at the other network I'm not surprised.

You mean ShopHQ after the hostile takeover? Or are there changes at HSN?

I read this yesterday and can only surmise that with revenues down, someone had to take the fall. While I give Watts credit for utilizing social media and the power of event/stunt broadcasting to drive traffic to this site as well as mobile and tablet, it seems to have been at the expense of the Q's core business proposition: Quality, Value, Convenience.
Hopefully someone will take a second look at getting back to basics. It's not as flashy as Red Carpet Events and the Kardashians, but it's the bedrock on which this billion dollar business was built.

I have to agree.

The day of TV shopping is slowly coming to an end. I predict 10yrs.
It came during a time before the internet & it was soooo cutting edge.
Today, I have a zillion different avenues to purchase the same product....and even little-town mid-America has a Walmart that provides a lot of the same products I see on TV.
Seeing changes like Ms. Watts leaving is good...shake things up. Change is good. It's getting stale. Prediction: I could see programming changes in the future....maybe pre-recorded shows running during pre-dawn hours. Much akin to infomercial style.
There's nothing exclusive about TV shopping any more. Tick Tock. It's coming to an end.

Yes that and the CEO of HSN Mindy Grossman has been getting a lot of positive news coverage. I also agree with sidsmom. I don't see many young people following the purchasing habits of prior generations.
You can compare the 5 year chart for HSN and Liberty Interactive who owns QVC.

Hopefully, they will go back toward some of the things that built QVC in the first place. The business model of ever increasing prices with ever reducing quality did not work for them as they had hoped. IMO - fewer hosts - no more than 1 per show and get rid of the carnival hawker style of selling. QVC was so much more enjoyable when it was not so hard sell on everything. I recall when it was actually enjoyable to watch Rick - now I can't watch him.
