A wig.  Today's wigs are light as a feather.  My sisters hair didn't grow back after brain surgery many years ago.  She has a wardrobe of wigs in different styles and colors.  Many elderly women wear wigs now.

If she doesn't want a full wig look at the hair toppers. They fill in the top of the head and add volume where you need it.

@HonestLife A wig is a good option but just be sure she has no scalp sensitivity.  Many times hair loss can increase this.  Being a cancer survivor and having been totally bald while going through chemo therapy wigs were torture for me to wear.  There are lots of cute, comfortable turbans available which is the route I took.  Of course, do what is right for her and best wishes!  They have them on Amazon and others such as headcoversdot com.

I just saw this.  Yes I wear a wig every day.  Everyone thinks it's my real hair.  Even when I wore it into the hairdresser's place.

I've had strangers come up to me and ask who's my hairdresser.

I think it looks real because it's a short bob haircut.  I don't think long hair looks natural.

I have hair.  I just got used to wearing it.  When people tell me I don't look 75 they don't realize it because I wear foundation (that makes my face all the same color).  Look at a young person, their skin color is all the same.  They don't have sun boo boos yet or veins, etc.

I just don't have a lot of wrinkles.  The wig is all part of the look.

QVC sells Toni Brattain wigs.  That's what I wear.  I order from the website because I don't like the black roots QVC puts on their wigs.

But the difference is on QVC  you can curl them.  The one's I buy you can't curl them.  But with a short bob it's easy.

Quick story.  When I go to the dentist I usually take off the wig because tilting my head back pushes on the wig.  I will put it back on without a mirror.  It lays back perfectly.

I hope this helps @HonestLife.  Also thanks to @shoesnbags for calling my attention to this post😘

Re: Head Coverings

[ Edited ]

@HonestLife @OnIt@Xivambala@Oznell@amyb@annabellethecat@MilliesAunt2@LindaSal

A lot of good suggestions have been made for head coverings.

I have been dealing with hair loss for several years now. It depends on what type of hair loss one has. Hair loss all over would require more coverage and a wig, turban or wrapped scarf would

probably work best. There are a lot of turbans and headwraps on Etsy. I just purchased three. I think that they are a fun Bohemian look. I have also purchased winter turban hats. I leave my long hair out in the back.

My hair loss is frontal fibrosing alopecia, which means that

my front hairline from temples to forehead hairline are affected. It is also the type of alopecia that kills the hair follicle

and hair will not grow back. Most likely, this was caused by

medications, and is becoming more common in post menopausal women.

Solutions for me have been: First, I grew out my bangs and

all layers, since I have also had thin baby fine hair all my life.

My hair is shoulder length and the hair that would have been bangs, I can tuck behind my ears to cover the temples. My

widows peak has disappeared.(It works for now)

Next, I bought stretchy headbands in several colors. They cover the front hairline. (I'm preparing for hairline to recede

furthur) I wear them occasionally.

From QVC, I have purchased 2 Toni Brattin wigs in shorter layered styles. As was mentioned before, I agree that shorter wigs are more realistic. I have only worn them a few times to get used to them. One thing that is good about QVC wigs, is they can be returned. Most wig shops do not accept returns. If they do, they usually charge a restocking fee.

Like annabellethecat mentioned, people think that I look much younger when I wear the wigs. I have always had good skin and people have for many years thought my three daughters are my sisters. Never have I worn foundation. I'm 74

and it is only in the past few years that I have developed a few fine lines below my eyes. I have none on my forehead or cheeks. (staying out of sun & wearing sunglasses all year)

Just before I retired 2 years ago, I wore my short Toni Brattin wig to work. It is my same hair color. Everyone loved

it and not one person guessed that it was a wig. Even my best friend of 50 years, thought it was my own hair. Husband loves my wigs.

If anyone needs a wig, it is best to go to a local shop as

MillisAunt2 suggested. They will help you find the best style for your face shape. There are websites like Oznell suggested.

Many of them will help to find the right style for your face.

For the past month, I have been looking at "Wig Talk Wednesday", videos online, filmed at Mimi's Wig Boutique in

Dallas Texas. You can see videos fom the past few years. They are also on Facebook and Instagram.

These two ladies try on wigs from  many famous wigmakers in current styles. Kim has a longer more narrow face shape and Misty has a round face like me. Watching them can give a good idea what would be a good style for you.

I have seen them try on probably 100 wigs and made a list

of possibilities and I'll take it to my local wig shop. I would like to purchase a more high end wig. Toni Brattin's are okay to start with, but I would like to prepare for when I really need

to wear a wig all the time. For me, I find that Toni Brattin's wigs have a little too much hair on top . There are websites online that show how to thin out a too thick wig. Also

a hairdresser can thin one out for you.

Kim and Misty are hairdressers in addition to selling wigs.

Women come from all over the country and Europe to make

appointments with Kim and Misty at Mimi's Wig Boutique, which has been in business since the 1970's. Check out their

videos, these ladies are a hoot.

For anyone wearing wigs, the wig caps are not that comfortable. Kim and Misty suggest Milano headbands that

attach with velcro and hold the wig in place. I got one and it

works; wig does not slip or slide.

Wearing wigs has become a  fashionable way to change your look. Many women wear them for fun, not just

to deal with hair loss. In the 1970's I started buying hairpieces

and wigs, just for a different fun look. I never imagined that I would ever be dealing with hair loss. No one in my family ever has.

Spring and summer are coming and there are also a lot of cute hats as Kachina mentioned.
