Re: Have you ever had a once in a lifetime experience?

I was able to go to Alaska on a cruise with my father (who has since passed). My father and mother were going to go to Alaska but one of my sisters had a baby and my mother wanted to stay and help with the baby. My parents asked if I wanted to go and it was such a wonderful trip.

I was also able to go to Europe with my father. He wanted to visit one of my brothers and his family who live there. We were gone for a month. My husband was able to join us for the last 10 days or so and he had never before been out of the US. What a great trip for all of us.

I borrowed an airport cart and drove it around the airport terminals once. It was well before 9/11. I got pulled over but got away with it because I was cute. Would not do it again or recommend it to others especially now. So definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

@Peaches McPhee I remember telling a good friiend that I had gained many, many pounds while stationed in Germany and when she chewed me out I said I'd probably never get back--and she said I'd probably not fit thru the door next time.

And to me, that was a once in a lifetime experience.

The fun stuff:
1. Skydived
2. Co-piloted a boat race (We won.)
3. Climbed a mountain to watch the sunrise
4. Rode shotgun in a NASCAR
Then we have:
5. Flew through a storm in a prop plane over an Alaskan glacier. Pilot was visibly and literally shaken, asked for help in seeing / avoiding mountain peaks.
6. Got caught on an electrified fence. (I pray that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.)
7. Had my hair set on fire. True story.
And saved the best for last...
8. Survived a cancer with less than 0.5 chance of one year survival.

Two stand out, our day trip to Sedona when we were in Arizona and our trip to Maartha's Vineyard for our 25th anniversary

Oh one time I took an impromptu bus tour of Scotland because I mistook the tarry-looking charcoal air filters in my London bedsit bathroom for heroin or hashish. It's a long story. But Scotland was beautiful. I may get back there, but not under the same circumstances.

@IamMrsG  I am so glad you beat cancer and that you're here with us after setting your hair on fire. (Or however that occurred).  I think on the electric fence and flying over that glacier, I'd call it quits on that.

@qualitygal   Thank you for your kind words.  I am 29.5 years 'out' now.   God is Good.

BTW, didn't set my head on fire -- my groom did on our honeymoon.     Doesn't that cause a myriad of mental pictures?  Woman Very Happy

P.S.  He "flicked his Bic" (remember those?) and the wind blew my long hair right into the flame.  It's amazing how fast hair burns -- half my head was engulfed before he could beat it out with his bare hands.

Re: Have you ever had a once in a lifetime experience?

Reading this thread makes me realize what a chicken I am.  I absolute abhor heights, and the only slightly dangerous thing I've done is go out on the roof of the Empire State Building.  It would have taken a lot of effort to jump, but I think it could be done back in the 80's.  In other words, I was pretty safe.
