Re: Have you ever been hypnotized?

@cherry, so much of the problem (for doctors) is that between the generation that feels they should be able to get anything they think they want/need, instant gratification, and the concept that The Internet Knows All, people go into a doctor's office demanding something they've seen on TV that they don't really have knowledge about as far as their own condition, and feel their doctor isn't up to par if he doesn't want to give it to them. So the doctor is often put on the defensive. There are ways to inquire, but many people just have NO filter.

Absolutely @Moonchilde! I have a MIL who insists on constantly looking up my illness or other ones, calls me to inform me what I should "ask" no Demand the doctor to do or give me.....I listen and out the other ear it goes.....LOL. Surely she could be labeled an "armchair doc" LOL It actually infuriates me as I dont over read my illness or pump as there are articles on the net that could scare the stuffing out of me.  When friends who know I was a Respiratory Therapist call and try to solicit my advice or make me try to diagnose their symptoms or problem my answer is "I do not have a license to practice medicine" as in MD...LOL. MIL is of the thought that one can demand a doc to do or give whatever she reads. Oh boy she is in for a surprise. LOL Smiley Happy

Re: Have you ever been hypnotized?

@Stormygirl, my mom hit middle age in the 60s-70s at the time they had a pill for everything, all you had to do was ask, and doctors handed everything out like candy, no sweat. She had no clue how medicine changed over the years. If I had a nickel for every time I heard "Well just tell the doctor - they'll give you something to fix/cure it." She also thought MDs were gods. After 47 years, me not so much ;-)

Re: Have you ever been hypnotized?

Years ago a clinical psychologist tried to hypnotize me. She couldn't do it.

@dooBdoo

I'm sorry it didn't work for you.

I had several sessions and was never sure if it fixed what was going on, but it seemed to help me stop obsessing about the issue.

It did not stop my thinking of it, but I found I spent less time on the details.

At the time, I was in a very fragile emotional state and would have tried almost anything.

The years that followed were filled with talk therapy so the problems persisted, but not to the extent I had initially experienced.

It was a strange experience.

          Thanks, @Witchy Woman.   I found it to be extremely intense and tiring, and it did bring up imagery that was beneficial to carry forward in therapy.    The doc surmised that it was the physical eye movement that triggered migraines.   I would've liked to continue it, but no dice.    It's a fascinating method, and I'm glad it was helpful.   I hope you're doing well now.   (((hugs)))
