Yes, and it helped.
Being open-minded is key, though.
Human psyches are very powerful, and good health (of every kind) incorporates safe holistic remedies.

Yes, once...for about two months, then I snapped out of it and never dated the jerk again LOL...seriously, I agree with you @cherry that, if it works for the purposes stated in your OP, it's a good idea...much better than drugs.

Studies report that approximately 1/4 of the people subjected to hypnosis will not be able to be hypnotized.
There was a study done at Stanford University School of Medicine that has made great strides in identifying a "brain signature" for those brains that can be hypnotized and those that cannot. They used MRIs to map brain functions. It's interesting reading. It all seems to be linked to cognitive style.

mr henny and I were hypnotised to quit smoking.
We were in a large group at a hotel. mr henny went with me just to drive me home.
When there he figured he would join in just to prove that it was all hooey. When we arrived there was a news person there with a camera. He was told to leave. mr. henny gave me the I told you so look.
Well we were both hypnotised. It felt like about fifteen minutes, but was over an hour.
It was successful. We never looked back. The first few weeks were difficult, but sooooo worth it.
If I were to consider doing it for a child I would want someone with great credentials and I would want to be present. It could be dangerous done by the wrong person.

I tried it at a comedy club once. Didn't work on me. I can't imagine losing control of my thoghts to someone else.

No and I don't think anyone should attend to my mind but the scriptures, my neurologist and a counselor that I like. Also, some wise women and men.

@Mominohio wrote:Yes. Once for weight loss. It was very successful. I lost 100 lbs and kept it off for about 5 years. After some rough life altering things, I did put on weight again (then lost it again!), but it was more about being open to suggestions and being ready to do what you are being hypnotized for. I believe you have to want what it is (stop smoking, loose weight etc.)
I have read more than once that as far as hypnosis goes, it's far more difficult to be successful for weight loss than anything else, including smoking, because the eating pull is VERY strong, even when you want to lose weight. So your success was a testament to your hypnotist and your subconscious.

Not exactly. I learned self-hypnosis from one of my therapists, and it really does help with pain management and reducing anxiety and even depression. It works well along with biofeedback, specific breathing techniques, and guided imagery. I'd love to learn more about hypnosis done by a trained and trusted professional.

@cherry I think it's a wonderful alternative as long as the hypnotist has worked through enough of their own issues that they are able to place the needs/interests of the child first.
To me there's a lot of overlap between hypnosis, guided imagery, meditation, etc. They are all essentially forms of trance (think of getting so engrossed in something such as a movie or book that the outside world slips away...that would also be a form of trance).
While I've never been officially hypnotized, I have done a lot of guided imagry/meditation. And I think some of it has crossed over to being hypnosis. One is often not aware of how deeply in trance one is at the time, ;but might feel kind of spacey afterwards. An example in my life would be one night in a class we did a guided to lessen the attraction to a food. I chose chips. Didn't seem like much changed at the time. But the next day at work I found myself literallystopping dead in my tracks and standing there trying to figure out how the heck I was going to get the guacamole up to my mouth! (After a bit of thought I realized that my issue was with plain potato chips...don't like the flavored ones and I'm only interested in corn or tortilla chips if there is really good homemade salsa or guacamore to dip them in.) It's now several years later and I'm still not drawn to chips nearly as strongly as I was before that.
