I started a thread awhile back about doing good deeds, it turned sour so quickly I had to let it die a slow painful death. All I wanted to do was have people tell about good deeds they had done and WHAM we were persecuted, mainly for broadcasting our good deeds. Can you believe it?

It's a shame that some don't want to hear about the nice gestures others do. I would think it might give someone an incentive to help out in some way, too.

I remember one year around Christmas when someone had started a thread about sending a shoe box full of various items to poor kids. They had explained what they had done and included a link or more info in the post if others were interested. I thought that was very nice and many others wanted to participate. I don't think anyone thought of it as bragging about what they had done.

What is worse now is not so much the actual pics, gifs, graphics disrupting this thread, but that the original topic is getting lost in the debate over pics and graphics!{#emotions_dlg.blink}

There were comments about bragging, maybe not in those words but negative remarks about talking about what good deeds we do or have done. Some thought good deeds should not be talked about. I myself love to hear what good things people do. Maybe I will start another thread around Christmas.

Yes, I believe it.Smile

All you have to do is read all the responses on this thread (and remember we've all learned we can start a thread about anything and it has the potential to go south, no matter how hard we try to save it{#emotions_dlg.laugh}).

I suspect a thread asking folks to post stories about other people doing good deeds would meet with a bit less criticism. But even that could go up in flames. It's the nature of the forums, the wide variety of interesting people with interesting viewpoints, and sometimes the failure and severe limitations of the written word.

Hi, again, Opurrra!

We entered the "threads are fluid" zone somewhere along the way, didn't we.{#emotions_dlg.blushing}{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

457 responses??? Rarely, do the moderators let a topic go that long without zapping it. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}The only ones that are lengthy that are allowed to stay here are posters talking about their pets or a nice thread about their day. Anything with differing opinions usually goes very quickly here... Must be a record.

People remembered it...that's a good thing.

I bet you inspired other posters to do something similar!
