Re: Have You Ever...Paid For The Order Behind You In Line

Absolutely not. I am more selective about where my hard earned money goes and I want it to go where it's most needed.

That was pretty nice of you OP and to others who have helped those who really needed it.

Yes but I don't start a thread about it.

I would help someone if I knew they needed it, but I have never randomly paid for a person behind me.

I think it would be insulting to randomly pay for someone in line behind me. They just might not appreciate it....

Yes I have. There was a lady and her children in front of me a couple of weeks ago at Target and her card was being declined. She was buying diapers, baby food and formula. I put it on my card. It wasnt a lot of money but they were all necessities and that baby had to have them. Most people would do the same thing exact thing if they had the money to cover it.

I was in line at Chik-Fil-A a couple of years ago a lady was in front of me with her kids. Same thing, her card was declined and her total was almost $20. I was going to add my order on and pay for both but before I could even say it the cashier gave it to the lady who was in disbelief and said it was Chik-Fil-A's pleasure to buy her lunch. They are known for doing that around here.

You'd think she would have known about her financial status concerning the card before she went shopping. I can understand wanting to help, but you never know if it's a scam or not.

What was she doing spending money at a fast food restaurant if she was having financial difficulty? Makes me wonder if she was hoping to get a free meal for her family.

This wasn't the same woman at both places. The first woman after it said her card was declined she said she knew she had money in there and stepped aside to call the number on the back of the card. My guess was maybe her husband or someone else who had a card had used it. I didn't wait for her to call, I just gestured to the cashier that I would pay and she scanned my stuff and I paid the total. The lady was very embarrassed and thanked me a million times. She tried to give me her license to hold until she could get the money and pay me back. I said don't worry about it. Just do a good deed for someone.

I could have been gullible, but I can live with that. What I wouldn't want to live with is knowing that baby didn't have diapers or food. So I will take my chances. The money wasn't missed by me one bit.

I've had my card declined because I've forgotten to put the new one in my purse and the one I'm carrying has expired date. She said the woman was in disbelief. Begrudge someone a free chik fil a dinner.
