bluegrassbaby: Good for you - it's nice to read about people doing something without expecting anything in return.
Just ignore the nay-sayers - they don't matter and are more of the problem in this world than the solution.

I bought a seven day parking pass when my husband was in the hospital and only ended up using it one day. He was released sooner than we thought!!! When I went threw the cashiers stand on the day of his release, I told the cashier what had happened and I wanted the pass to go to someone who could use it. She gushed about how kind that was and she would see that someone who needed it would get it!

How would it be insulting? It's a gesture to make someone's day a little brighter.
Many people who have received this gift turn around and pick up the tab (or a part of it) for the person behind THEM in line.
I've seen instances where over 100 people keep the gesture going at a drive thru.
For every one person insulted, there would be at least 999 who would be surprised and pleased!
I'd take that chance any day!

What a nice thread, and to answer the question, Yes. Just this week we bought lunch for a very nice young family whose children were especially well behaved, and thanked them for doing such a fine job of parenting.
Many, many times. It is fun ! Every week somebody at the long table after church buys ice cream for the whole bunch - people my husband breakfasts with often have already paid the tab for the whole table before the diners go up to the counter to pay. Lots of kindness spread around and that's always a good thing.

Unless it's to help someone who appears to need help, I don't understand that whole concept. I can afford to pay my own way and it wouldn't make my day having someone pay for me and I would definitely refuse the offer and suggest it be used for someone who needed help. If each person in turn kept paying for the one behind - why not everyone just pay for their own and save all the confusion for the clerk??!!! I could see if it were a serviceman or first responder to thank them for their service.

Pook, it is just a random act of kindness.
People at church today will bring fresh vegetables from their gardens to share with others. We will get a basket of wonderful tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, etc.
Can we afford vegetables? Yes.
Are we grateful these people were kind enough to share? Yes.
Do they also share with the food pantry in town? Yes.
All random acts of kindness. All appreciated.
