I am wondering if anyone has used the rubber shingles instead of asphalt. It is supposed to last about 75 years. It won't crack, nor will hail damage it
It was a bit more costly than the asphalt, but we got a lifetime warranty intead of 25 years
If you have it are you happy with it?

Never heard of that before - although it makes sense - wonder what the cost is compared to a metal roof?

Its about less than1/2 the cost. It's made from recycled tires and pcv pipe. An average roof saves about 500 tires from going to the landfill. Metal will dent and rust in time this will not

@cherry Hopefully you've actually seen these rubber SHINGLES in person and know exactly what they are ie shingles and not just a rubber roof that's merely a sheet of rubber.
Some years ago we had a very small roof redone due to it leaking. The company rep totally ripped us off by telling us we had to replace with a rubber roof in out area instead of typical shingles that were removed. We thought it was odd but moved forward.
WAY not worth the money we paid, thank the lord we cannot see it unless we're on a ladder. The installers were SUBcontractors who know nothing about roofing work!!! It was a horrible experience, so much so we had to have a mgr come out to the house and have it totally re-done by 2 other workers.
Don't fall for anything that you do not really want. Make certain the company does not FARM OUT work to substandard subcontractors which we also did not know would happen.

Thank you. WE saw the material and are dealing with a long established company. They have a AAA+ rating with the BBB
I know its scary to have to do expensive jogs like roofs

I don't know a lot about rubber roof material (except when used for flat roofs), but rubber is a heavy material and could require ripping out the old underlayment on the roof and installing an entirely new, beefed up plywood underlayment ,before installing the rubber outer layer. This could run into big money.. You can probably research the various aspects of different roofing materials by doing an internet searh for the infomation..
I would guess the house also has to be structurally sturdy enough all around in order to support a heavy rubber roof, but again I'm guessing. Do your due diligence before investing!. If you've ever seen how heavy a pallet of common asphalt shingles can be, you should be concerned with the weight of rubber if someone suggests putting it over your house.

In Albuquerque and Santa Fe, there are thousands of pueblo-style flat roofs. The sheet rubber is the most effective way to roof this type of house. It's very important the edges be properly sealed.
I've had estimates from several roofing companies recently and nobody has mentioned a rubber roof. Even asphalt shingles are ridiculously expensive. I'm looking at around $10,000 for a 1600 sq ft house.

They will be looking at the wood underneath and have set aside over $3,000 more incase the wood needs to be changed
This roof costs 3 times what we paid for the last one. Our roof is 27 years old so it needs replacement

Interesting concept. I wonder how it would hold up to the sun in the southeast. We get temps in the triple digits and that sun is HOT.

We have a tile roof and the roofs are the responsibility of the HOA - thank goodness.
