@suzyQ3 wrote:From what I read in the LAT today, he is pointing to the culture of the times in earlier decades, making it sound like an excuse for his actions. I don't think that that will go very far.
I did not read about his saying it was a conspiracy of a any kind, but I wouldn't be surprised. There are always such accusations on either side of the political spectrum.
What's particularly galling is that he publicly championed women's rights while exploiting them privately. This is certainly not an unheard of phenomonen, but it is disturbing and, once again, points out the difference between a public and a private persona.
Another good example was in the news yesterday regarding a politician. Another supreme divide of personae that is the epitomy of hypocrisy.
There have been many men who became powerful during the 'culture of the times' and they didnt sexually harass in their workplaces.
Yes, HW is the epitome of hypocracy.

HW has been an equal opportunity abuser for years. He not only has abused women but also has been a horror to work for and/or around. His temper is legendary and why it has taken so long for all of this to finally break the surface is beyond me but I am glad that those that he has abused may finally have their day. In the same token, I will never, ever listen to a syllable that Lisa Bloom utters again as her explanation of his behavior is beyond the pale.
I hope all of those people that were happy to have photos taken with him that were not in the business (meaning those that possibly were beholden to him) make this a turning point and call out this behavior. I always hoped the younger generations would put a stop to this behavior but after seeing the scandals/settlements coming out of Silicon Valley it is still clear that if you have money and power morals fly out the window.

Just when you think there are no news stories left ,out comes this one. I find it fascinating for many reasons.

His lawyer won't call it what it is, she's calling it "workplace inappropriate behavior"
No, burping in your cube is "workplace inappropriate behavior"
He broke the law, but the rich & powerful are above the law it seems
I heard her call it what it is, "Sexual harassment." @software
He's the bad guy, but so many women on this board jump to attack other women every chance they get. I don't think some here care what that jerk did, they are after his lawyer.
I "attack" stupidity without regard to gender.
I heard a different interview than you heard.
But it's all good.
I heard she characterized it as "misconduct".

Hmmmm, maybe Harvey's brother was behind the outing of this scandal:

How about the political scum who prey on women, many are caught and nothing happens. This isn't a Hollywood problem, it's a problem through out this country. When men start treating women as women and not as ornaments or sex objects, when men show respect for women and don't walk steps ahead like superior beings, maybe, just maybe this disgusting behavior will change.

Maybe men are walking steps ahead of women because women can't keep up?
Unless you meant something more obscure by your "walking steps ahead" reference.

I don't understand why so many here thinks this happens JUST in the film business!
It happens in politics ... and in corporate America ... and in ministeries ...... and in small businesses ...... in Silicon Valley ..... it happens everywhere.
I'm not clear if this is suddenly being reported because some magazine story is coming out or a major lawsuit .... or what prompted this to happen now. What I do know is that many production companies (Weinstein's company ... Oprah's company, etc) has very tight confidentiality agreements that every employee must sign to work there, so very little comes to light. Wherever this originated, it wasn't from an employee!
As for Lisa Bloom, she's a feminist defense attorney .... and they don't always love their clients. The fact that HW hired her indicates he is serious about repairing his reputation ..... I'm guessing that behind closed doors, she's going to wipe the floor with him! JMO

Weinstein is supposed to be turning Bloom's book into a miniseries. So she has a financial interest in his continuing success.
Altho if he has been suspended, that may now be a different story. If he can no longer help her, she may lose interest in helping him.
I guess we'll see.
