As a mark of respect for the memory of Shimon Peres,
former President and Prime Minister of Israel,
a President's Proclamation has been issued to
lower all American flags to Half-Staff until sunset 9/30 (Fri).

May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in peace.

In Pennsylvania, the Governor ordered all Commonwealth flags to half-staff this week in honor of Arnold Palmer.

When I received my flag notifications, I was surprised
Pennsylvania would lower for Arnold Palmer.
That action definitely has a New Jersey/Whitney Houston
feel to it. Humm.
Of course for the same length of time (Arnold Palmer until sunset 9/30)
the reasoning to lower for the Prime Minister will supersede
any state proclamations.

I know what you mean - seems like half-staffing is out-of-control. Maybe we just leave flags that way all the time; they can issue a proclamation when it's a good time to raise them all the way.

Governor Christie also lowered the flag for Clarence Clemons when he passed away.

@ValuSkr ITA with it being out-of-control.
I would recommend only lowering for
the death of a President, past/present.
No one else.
Nothing else.
Thank goodness the ridiculous act of lowering for a private citizen (Houston, Clemons, Palmer) is only at a state level...but 10 yr from now, we might be seeing the national flag being lowered more often for more less important purposes. Time will tell.

I am fine with having lowered for Clarence as well as Houston. Both gave back to NJ. I can't speak for PA and Palmer.
I am happy they will be lowering the flags for Shimon Peres.

LOL call me a rebel ....is probably why I dont fly any flag on a pole. I dont like to be told I have to do anything symbolic (especially for music stars, sports icons) unless I feel it is appropriate or close to my heart. I would do it for one of my fallen commerades but probably not for any head of state or country unless they made a very similar sacrifice. Is just me and how I feel......nothing against anyone.
