 I have family just a bit inland from Tampa and last I heard they have decided to hunker down and stay. I am very worried.

@haddon9  @BalletBabe.  My sisters friend, who I've mentioned before as living in Tampa, has decided to stay in her one story house because her relatives, who live in the area, are going to stay.  So she may lose her house, her Cadillac Escalade, after losing her husband suddenly in July and the business they operated.

Shed previously said she was evacuating then changed her mind.  We were so relieved and are now furious with her, especially since her area was under evacuation orders.

is she aware of what will happen to her in a 12' storm surge? Ignoring mandatory evac orders is inexcusable in my opinion

I just read one of the updates on the Fox site from the Police that they talked an elderly woman into evacuating.  Her plan was to stay in her home with a floatation device.  Thank goodness they convinced her otherwise.

I saw a video on people preparing for the storm.  There was one man (in his 60s maybe?) who was disabled and had half a leg but his SS disability payments had stopped so he had very little to live on.

He has a small boat where he lives with all of his worldly possessions and claimed that he was going to try & ride out the storm in the boat.  He said that he could swim even if he couldn't really walk.

I kept thinking that his boat will probably smashed up and he will drown or be killed by the strong winds and water.

He did have some people concerned about him and were trying to get him to go to a shelter.

@haddon9.  I've  wondered about the people who were going to ride out the storm in boats during Helene.  Never heard a word about them.

I pray the man you describe has the wisdom to go to a shelter.  I suppose we'll  never know his outcome.

@Kachina624 , since she recently lost her husband she is probably still in a fog and going through the motions of life and just kind of following along with what her relatives are doing.  Very sad.  Hopefully she changes her mind or at least is able to go stay with those relatives so she is not alone in that house during the hurricane.

I am northwest of Orlando. The skies are very dark and it has been raining.  Flooding will not be an issue for us hopefully, only wind damage.  And we will very likely lose power.  I best eat up all the ice cream!

@BalletBabe

Don't forget to turn off electricity at the circuit breaker and turn off any natural gas to prevent fires.  I have not read all the posts here but I hope some people realize that many people could not evacuate due to no gas available and the traffic jams. Plus a lot of people don't want to leave because it's hard to return to your home by officials stopping you after the storm.  Agree or not, some people are stuck and have to make the best of their situation.  Praying for everyone. May the good Lord protect you all.

Poor woman is probably beside herself, especially since  her loss was recent. She's probably torn about losing her things that they shared. I hope she decides to leave.

Re: HURRICANE UPDATES

[ Edited ]

time now: 1317. We are starting to get the outer bands. Torrential rain. Winds have picked up to 21 mph with much higher gusts. It is bad out there already and getting worse by the minute. There are several large and dangerous tornadoes south of us. What else could happen?!

I put on makeup and did my hair nicer than usual. When I'm found I want to be proud of how I looked 😉😂
