I saw a video on people preparing for the storm.  There was one man (in his 60s maybe?) who was disabled and had half a leg but his SS disability payments had stopped so he had very little to live on.

He has a small boat where he lives with all of his worldly possessions and claimed that he was going to try & ride out the storm in the boat.  He said that he could swim even if he couldn't really walk.

I kept thinking that his boat will probably smashed up and he will drown or be killed by the strong winds and water.

He did have some people concerned about him and were trying to get him to go to a shelter.

The locals are calling him Lt. Dan.

@BalletBabe, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Florida. As this thread shows so many posters are being impacted by this. So many of us have relatives in the area.

Such a high elderly population which just adds another layer of concern. You can't help but to worry and hope all have found safe shelter.

Thank you for this thread and for keeping everyone informed as best as you can and for as long as you can.

Like others have said, please stay safe. Poster, while physically can't be with you, are there in spirit holding your hand.

It is 11:38 am.  Governor said they have 50,000 line men here from all over to help restore power as soon as they can.  It looks like it is getting windy in Tampa and I heard they have some power outages already.  They think it will be hitting land sooner then they thought.  Possibly 10 to12 midnight.  It is now a Cat 3

Some tips:  Fill  anything you can with water.  Pans a bath tub, buckets.  Make sure you have plenty of drinking water for you and your animals.

Charge anything that needs charged.

Shelters still have openings if you decide to leave.

Tornado warnings all over.  Stay in a room or closet in the center of your house.

@Etoile308   Thanks so much!   It is the scariest thing I have ever been through.  Not sure I will stay in Florida after this.

@BalletBabe  I'm in Lakeland. You said you're north of Tampa? Where? Thanks for starting this thread. I will also check in through the day. Rain was light a few hours ago. Very heavy now at 10 a.m.

@smoochy  Hi, Heavy rain here also.    I am so happy we have the Governor that we do.He said there is still room in the shelters.   I am in Zephyrhills. This is a nightmare

you know that another forum friend @Zhills also lives there? You are not that far from me. Agree about the Governor. Don't panic.
is your home sturdy? What kind-mobile, manufactured, stick built? If you think you would feel less scared and safer in a shelter, go now. Don't dilly dally. I am here for you

@smoochy   I am in a block home.  I have 2 huge trees beside my house and that is my biggest concern.  I have no desire to be in a shelter.  I have my dog and my Parrot here,  and I have neighbors that have stayed also.  Thank You.   People areon the news crying saying they said good bye to their homes.  (heart breaking)  They live near the water and probably won't have a home after this.

I'm saying prayers for all in Florida.  Question: I read that people can go to shelters but how do the shelters not get damaged?   Always wondered that.   Stay safe all.

That's comforting to know that you've got neighbors close by @BalletBabe .

Thank you for keeping us posted! Prayers sent for all involved and the state of Florida.

I have family just a bit inland from Tampa and last I heard they have decided to hunker down and stay. I am very worried.

@haddon9  @BalletBabe.  My sisters friend, who I've mentioned before as living in Tampa, has decided to stay in her one story house because her relatives, who live in the area, are going to stay.  So she may lose her house, her Cadillac Escalade, after losing her husband suddenly in July and the business they operated.

Shed previously said she was evacuating then changed her mind.  We were so relieved and are now furious with her, especially since her area was under evacuation orders.
