I have to say that after reading through this thread just now, what flabbergasts me is the idea that a young child knows nothing about sexuality. It's just unbelievable. Maybe some don't want to admit it, but sexuality in one form or another is present from a very, very young age. It isn't something that just pops up one day

Did you mean to say that......LOL

Yorkie, no one has mentioned racism at all on this thread. That has nothing to do with this young man and what he said on HONY.

Have you read the entire thread?

If so, I find it hard to understand why you would say I am the first person to mention racism.

I merely meant that as an example that just because one doesn't see it in their town doesn't mean it doesn't exist.  It was what came to my mind as personal experience.

I didn't mean that because I don't see it here, that it doesn't exist.

I was making the point that, of all places, if it was so pervasive, one should see it here, especially considering my location and history of this particular county.

OTOH, I have personally been discriminated against because of my color; yet people would deny that exists and do so on a regular basis.

As for as gay people, I have an affinity for them and one of my closest friends is gay. I have a bond with them, the male ones at least, because I love the campiness and so on. And yes, I do know that not all gay men camp, etc. I'm aware of that. I'm just saying I have a bond with them.....

I can't say I have any gay friends but from when I worked with some I think they are some of the nicest people ever.  I'm thinking of 2 guys in particular and then I think gay smokers are some of the politest people ever.

@debdc...Matthew Shepard was a drug dealer beaten by an occasional lover in a drug rage over drugs. See the book The Book of Matt, written by a gay journalist, so no bias there. The story of a persecuted gay man is more sympathetic than the truth.

________

There is a lot of criticism and debunking of that author, Stephen Jiminez, and his book.

Being a gay author does not mean he had no biases.  There are oher biases and agendas that can affect his "story".

Choosing to believe his version doesn't make it the truth.

And, not buying into his version doesn't mean anyone is afraid of the truth, either.

@Lion...did you read the book?  No?  The author worked very closely with the prosecuting attorney and law enforcement.  It took him years to write it...he wanted to get the whole story and he wanted to get it right.  He interviewed Matthew's friends and friends of the men who killed him...some of whom WERE THE SAME PEOPLE.

It doesn't paint Matthew in a bad light at all.  It's just the truth about the case.  It wasn't a hate crime, it was a drug crime.  But a hate crime is a lot s*xier than an everyday murder over drugs.

There's a whole "thing" built up around the lie now...a foundation that no doubt pays lots of salaries.  So the lie has to continue.  Nobody cares much about truth...any truth...anyway.

I laughed when I read your reply. The emotie I posted is supposed to express embarrassment. Hahaha.

You and I probably agree on very little, but yes, the emoties don't do it for me either.

There is no monolithic group. They're just individuals like the rest of us.

I know that I was just  thinking about some of the people I knew and worked with over the years.
