Lots of people would want these period cabinets for a home they are trying to bring back to it's original style. Even if the cabinets are unattractive, people may want them for a garage or basement workshop, summer camp etc.

So instead of donating or selling the perfectly good cabinets, countertops, sinks etc. they trash them and fill up dumps.

Wasteful and environmentally irresponsible.

So what do you expect us to do about it?

If you feel that strongly about it, just make some comments on their social media pages ... or their websites.   There's nothing any of us can do about it.

My goodness ! Why so snarky Tinkrbl44 ??  She was nicely stating her thoughts on the matter. We use these threads for that purpose most often. As long as it is in good taste and harms no one, what is wrong with her comments ? I agree with her. Recycle, reuse, gift or whatever. Our landfills are a mess as it is.

We must all be responsible for what we do on and to this planet.

Uh, I wasn't being the least bit snarky .... it was a fair question.

If she really feels that strongly about the cabinet thing,  why not complain where it can actually do some good?

You must realize that it won't do any good complaining about it here.

How do you know that she hasn't?

It doesn't matter if it "will do any good," if the OP wants to discuss the matter here, there's nothing wrong with that.

I don't understand this type of response...............

Re: HGTV Property Brothers Rant

It does appear to me that PB show does get rid of everything. They may donate some for reclaimed wood, but they don't address that on the show. Fixer Upper is much more conscious of recycling in their demolitions. The best one for saving the old is Addicted to Rehab. Not sure if Flip or Flop recycles or not, but I have seen them demolish already upgraded kitchens for no real reason other than to be more "in."  It's kind of disconcerting.

Just what is so hard to understand?

People whine and complain all the time and do nothing about it.     If it really bothered the OP, why not speak up to the show and the PB and make her point of view known.    It would be a good suggestion to make.

Complaining to posters on the QVC message board gets her nowhere.

Did it ever occur to you that the OP just wanted to get it off her chest? What crime did she commit doing that? Maybe she wanted to find out if others had the same impression. What's hard to understand is why she is being attacked. If you don't like what she said, why not scroll on by? It's not as if these threads are rocket science.

I thought to reuse old cabinets they have to be removed undamaged. If there is damage to it and the cabinets are not a standard size they have to be thrown away.  From my experience with old homes cabinets were often screwed and nailed in and glued.  There's no way to remove them without damage.

THANK YOU .....

I've replaced cabinets twice and both times it was impossible to get them out "intact".      Some people seem to think it's a piece of cake to do that, but until you've tried it, well ......

Old cabinets can be removed and removed in good shape.........you just have to know what you're doing and what type of cabinet you're looking at.........granted, there will be some that are beyond repairs........it's why they are getting new cabinets................it's done every day.................raven

Re: HGTV Property Brothers Rant

[ Edited ]

I think I've seen every episode of Fixer Upper and they do a good job of repurposing and recycling almost everything.  Then they use items they repurpose to "fix-up" the home.  They also make furniture from wood that has been taken out of the home they are working on.

Between that show and Rehab Addict, I'm addicted to using old items and repurposing items for my household decorating.

I forgot to mention that we too had a house custom built.  All the cabinets were built on the wall instead of being built then put on the wall.  They would have to be taken apart piece by piece.  Plus they didn't have backs so it would be difficult to reuse them without rebuilding them.
