Is this the same as the Swine Flu?

Not a fan of shots.

I had rabies series when I was six years old.

Scary stuff. I've told my kids wash wash wash your hands.

I don't know if it is or not. But have heard a lot of folks have this too. I believe the Swine Flu is more like having a serious cold. Where the H1N1 is a combination of stomach and cold combined. I am really trying to stay home more right now. And, try to never shake hands with anyone at this time. Have had my appointment with my internist since I was sick with my cold, and he said my lungs sounded good at that time.

I have heard the rabies shots really hurt.

H1N1 is the swine flu.....my granddaughter had the swine flu a few years ago when it first appeared and she was one sick little girl....the stomach part was the hardest on her but she was only sick a week which was a blessing; she is fine now

I did not know that. I thought H1N1 was the bird flu.

My aunt who lives in FLA just told me last week that 2 people there died from Swine flu. One was a 28 year old young mother. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

sounds like both. swine & bird.

Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs (swine influenza) and in birds (avian influenza).

In June 2009, the World Health Organization declared the new strain of swine-origin H1N1 as a pandemic. This strain is often called swine flu by the public media. This novel virus spread worldwide and had caused about 17,000 deaths by the start of 2010. On August 10, 2010, the World Health Organization declared the H1N1 influenza pandemic over, saying worldwide flu activity had returned to typical seasonal patterns.[2]

I think that unless somebody has a medical condition or allergy that prevents them from gettign the flu shot it should be mandatory UNLESS those who refuse are made to wear a face mask in public at all times.

It isn't about you but everybody else. Nobody wants to catch anything because of some body refusing to do something because they can! Everybody is all for non smoking in houses, stores, restaurants, theaters etc..so they are not exposed to second hand smoke ....but they don't care about spreading germs.

Carry small thing of hand sanitizer..doesn't mean you need to go overboard but be a bit proactive.

And kids..OMG out and about I have ran into more kids just opening up and coughing right in air not covering anything..parents just looking at them! Teach your kids to properly cover themselves..if you are sick stay home..if you must go out use a face mask.

The compromised, the young, elderly, immune compromised etc can die from the flu and it really can be prevented.

I took my grandson with my son to his follow up MD appt the other day..they said it would be a two hour wait as they were slammed with sick kids before the holiday. We opted out and came back early the next morning. There were about eight kids in there coughing and hacking all over everybody and the community toys!

When my kids were younger their MD had two waiting rooms..One Well and One Sick! So if you were there for shots, physical etc you didn't have to co mingle with the ill kids! It was a great model.

These days everybody is all about themselves mostly and not thinking of others.

Being thoughtful of others is a good thing and so many are the 'me me me' attitude, it is a shame as they are also raising and producing our next generations.

I had the flu a few weeks ago and I got my flu shot in October. The shot doesn't cover all the different strains, unfortunately.

There was a doctor interviewed on our local news last week who stated she got the new quadrivalent shot but also became sick with the flu anyway. She said she was very disappointed and surprised (the doctor was in her 40's, btw).

Reportedly, it's not that younger people aren't getting the shot and older people are.

We've seen a lot of people on VPS say they had no intention of getting a flu shot.

It's that over time, older people have picked up partial immunity from various other viruses.

I don't agree with that at all.

Scottie, if you're not agreeing with the part about "me me" and untaught kids, I agree with you. It's no different than ever.

When I go out, I am so aware of people around me who are coughing or showing other symptoms, and I walk away if possible. There are a lot of people like that, mostly the older people... somehow, it seems most younger people do the cough-in-your elbow thing. which I am grateful for.

Recently, I turned around and asked a woman near me to please turn away, she'd been coughing right in my face. She was 60ish, old enough to know better.

The flu shot should not be mandatory. It's not a tried-and-true shot like chicken pox etc. They guess what strands of the flu might be. I/family won't have the newer shots either.

I completely oppose mandatory flu shots. That would be horrendous.
