I keep a running list on my phone. As I think of something or run out of something, I add it to my list. As I'm shopping, I delete it off my list.

Since I always have my iPhone with me, I use my iPhone Notes for items I need to get. This way I don’t need to waste paper, that I’m just going to throw away. 🤗
Me too. Like@RescueLover I use Iphone Notes for my lists - one for Walmart and one for the store I use for most other items, a regional chain nearby. Oh and there's a list on my phone for Trader Joe's, too. I just click and delete items as I put them in my cart. I've always used a list, can't imagine grocery shopping without one.

@JeanLouiseFinch wrote:I still like to shop in person so I can look things over as I select them. I don't make my list according to the layout of the store, but I will group like items together. I make my master list on my phone but with sub heading lists by the stores I shop at; Costco, Aldi, Meijer, Walmart. Sometimes the sub lists are only Costco and Aldi on a given trip. It just depends from time to time. I check items off as they get added to my cart. When the shopping trip is done, I erase the listed items but keep the sub headings there and will add new things as I think of them for the next shopping trip.
@JeanLouiseFinch This is exactly what I do.

@qualitygal For years I've made my list according to the store layout! You aren't alone!

Huh ... interesting.
Since I stop by a few different stores every week, I have a main all-purpose list I use everywhere I go.
However, I also do a quick review of the current week's grocery flyer, so I know what's on sale in addition to what's on my master list. (Mistress list? Main list? Current list?)

What app is this?

I use the Out of Milk App (free version) on my iPhone and have separate lists for different stores. It stores your finished lists and you can restore the list items as needed. It's been really helpful to me especially at grocery stores or Costco.

Mistress list? @Tinkrbl44?

Since I married in the early '80's I did my grocery list the same way as you @qualitygal starting with the produce aisle first then working my way through to the final aisle which for me was frozen foods since I lived 25 min. away from our closest grocery store at that time. When I had my son in '83 my brother did my grocery shopping for me one week and came home and told me he would do it anytime I wanted my list of going up and then down the next aisle was so easy for him.
Now I print my list out on my computer with my local independent grocery store listed, then Walmart listed and the Dollar Tree listed. The bottom of the list has my at home weekend chores I need to get done as well. I mark off all items purchased and all chores accomplished. Come back to the office on Monday to delete then add to the next weekend's list from my computer.
