I too am pleased you got your $40. However, I do regret you didn't take another poster's advice to keep it private between you and the manager. That you told a cashier about your suspicion will circulate among all the store employees,  being embellished at each retelling. 

Is that fair to the cashier whom you are not even certain failed to give you your money? Is that how you would wish to be treated? Would you want your integrity questioned with only a suspician of wrong doing?

@house_cat, yay, great news that your money found its way back to you. I appreciate your bringing this topic to the forums as I can be a little to nonchalant with my change at times, just assuming that the pile they hand to me is correct. I can't tell you how many times I have put my hand into a coat pocket and discovered a bill! I will be better about that from now on having read your experience. Thanks for sharing.

I like it when the cashier asks, "How would you like that?"  I say, "Cash."  and they get a kick out of that.

@AngusandBuddhasMom  The OP did not blame anyone. You are welcome to express your opinion on money, but chaistizing someone who doesn't adhere to your rules is rude. It's the OP's money. If they want to take THEIR $40 and set it on fire it's none of your business.

IMO you should have kept it private between you and the manager. With that amount , they will look up the records. I am surprised they gave it to you, as well as so much time has passed.

Well considering how blase you were about $ your lucky. I would of noticed that day. But I don't take not receiving cash back as no big deal. Must be nice to live like that.

I would of noticed at the register. Why you did not call the store asap as soon as you realized your mistake is beyond me. And yes it is your mistake. It is your money and you left the store without it. The cashier was doing his job and you left his line without receiving your requested money. Then you blew it off for over a week and put all the blame on him.  Even after realizing you still were very nonchalant about it.

I work hard for my money and can account for all of it spent, deposited and cash. I would think 40. is still worth something today no matter what your life style is. I have a sister in law who forgot to cash a check for $45,000. Just let it go until it was almost a year later I can not believe that people can just think so little about $.

You couldn't be more  wrong about the situation or my reaction to it.  Are you always so judgmental of people you don't even know?  That must be exhausting.

As a person who has started many threads on this forum over the years, it is very frustrating to deal with those, like you, who don't bother to read the OP or the thread carefully.  I know you're just doing it to get under my skin, and I shouldn't let you do that, but seriously... take a course in reading comprehension please.

"Your lucky "should be "you're lucky" and "would of" should be "would have". Hope that helps!
