UPDATE:  I went to the store early this morning. I spoke first to my favorite cashier, who knows me very well. She asked who the checker was that day and when I told her she said, "He was probably talking too much." I didn't ask her to elaborate, but that confirmed my theory that he was distracted.

I told the manager that I had the receipt but not the cash, that is was possible I lost it, but didn't think so, could he check the #s for that day, but he didn't bother. He said he knew I was a good customer (I'm there literally every day and I shop for two households) and a trustable person and he had me sign a paper and gave me the $40.

Well considering how blase you were about $ your lucky. I would of noticed that day. But I don't take not receiving cash back as no big deal. Must be nice to live like that.

I would of noticed at the register. Why you did not call the store asap as soon as you realized your mistake is beyond me. And yes it is your mistake. It is your money and you left the store without it. The cashier was doing his job and you left his line without receiving your requested money. Then you blew it off for over a week and put all the blame on him.  Even after realizing you still were very nonchalant about it.

I work hard for my money and can account for all of it spent, deposited and cash. I would think 40. is still worth something today no matter what your life style is. I have a sister in law who forgot to cash a check for $45,000. Just let it go until it was almost a year later I can not believe that people can just think so little about $.

Re: Grocery Store Checkers - I have a question for you, thanks.

I've been doing all of my shopping online for years now, including food shopping.  I print out my list and check it before I send it to the store.  I pay when it is delivered with my bank debit card and tip the delivery guy.  Only once did I get a bag of food that was part of someone else's order.  I called the store and they picked it up within a half hour.

This mode of shopping also prevents me from buying things on impulse, as I only buy what I need.

I do it because I am disabled, but I recommend it for others also.  It's a very low stress and convenient way to shop.

I can make my words big as well but that is childish and it looks like your screaming. Which maybe you are. Can't tell and don't care.

You call me a crank? Because I had a different take on the OP's thread? Because I did not jump on the bandwagon of blaming the cashier? Because I would blame myself for not accounting for my money?? OK then.

Oh and btw crank is not the same as cranky which I am guessing you meant. But who knows since you seem off.

Re: Grocery Store Checkers - I have a question for you, thanks.

@house_cat, glad it all worked out.

I got $40 cash back last night when I went to the grocery store.  The cashier handed me my money with my coupons and receipt.  I usually just throw it into one my grocery bags and then put it in my wallet when I get home.

Instead of doing that, I put the money in my wallet right away.

I will make sure I do that now - and I bet you will too!  LOL

Yes I am ancient...

And even if I was  what a rude and common thing to say. You say it so flippant as if being rude like that is normal for you. Did you grow up on a side of a hill?

Slang

  • Prank call or crank call, a false telephone call
  • Crank, slang term for powdered substituted amphetamines, especially methamphetamine

Other uses

  • Cranks (restaurant), a chain of English wholefood vegetarian restaurants

Re: Grocery Store Checkers - I have a question for you, thanks.

Btw, I was not rude to the OP. When there are homeless people and people with no jobs I find it disgusting to be so flippant about 40.00. Gee my bad.

By all means call me to task for pointing out another opinion on being responsible about your money and not to blame someone else.

Re: Grocery Store Checkers - I have a question for you, thanks.

Proving once again that great customer service will pay off in the long run! Honesty is still out there! You get more flies with honey!

I wrote a check for more than the amount a year ago at my local grocery store. Because my address  was on the check they contacted me before I even realized I had forgotten it!

So glad you got your money back!
