Maybe we are getting our news from different sources. I have seen the trucking industry talked about almost daily, both locally and nationally. Much is about getting their commodities to the stores and/or distributors.

My feeling is each state and local authorities are the first step in improving any of the things you mentioned. All of us have to remember that those driving the trucks are also putting themselves in harm's way. Maybe not the "front line", but very important.

All of us wish things were better, and many feel that "we" were not prepared well enough for things like this to happen. My feeling is, for the most part, the majority of our leaders, be it local/state or federal, are doing the best they can under these terrible circumstances.

Stay well,

@hckynut I hope you are well too. While I am grateful for everything I've been able to get during this fiasco, I think one's relative satisfaction with product availability and the job that officials at all levels and marketplace managers are doing to address product shortages is largely dependent on location and jurisdiction. Some, clearly, are doing better than are others. I'm glad there are those who are satisfied the best is being done for them. I'm afraid I can't yet share that point of view.

Re: Grocery Shopping Is Getting Harder

The President himself said there is no shortge of paper goods or consumable food products, It is simply the DEMAND is outweighing the supply side.  Grocers are getting deliveries daily and truckers keep on truckin' across our great nation.  People are simply panic buying much like during the gas crisis.  I dont understand the mentality myself. And yes consumers are needlessly going to the stores.   My dear niece at Target told me a customer became irrate trying to return a pair of outdoor furniture cushions when the manager refused to accept the return, Over an abundance of caution Target has stopped accepting returns because they have no way of knowing the condition of the product once it leave the store. So yes some people are out there for needless reasons. Why someone felt the need to return furniture items in the midst of the pandemic is mind boggling.  Dr. Fauci has told everyone to STAY HOME !

Im sorry if your delivery services are not working but in early March I stocked up on $500 worth of goods then placed a second order on March 27th for $100.   Since I do not leave the house I have had time to do a thorough inventory of grocery items. in my pantry, refrigerator and freezer.  Perhaps my experience will be different the next time I need to order but I dont anticipate having to do that until late May.  Order a months worth of things so you arent having to use Instacart every few days or weeks.

@Reever, many things are said that simply are not the truth for many of us.  Of course, he is not facing any shortages.  I'm glad you are okay.

Re: Grocery Shopping Is Getting Harder

I live in Arizona and had a pleasant experience at Trader Joe's this morning. They open from 9am to 10am for seniors during the week. They wipe down your cart for you and monitor the number of people in the store. They all have on face masks (I did as well because we are being encouraged to do so) and they have the floor taped at the registers so that there is 6 feet of separation from the person in front of you and from them, when you are paying. They were well stocked and helpful. There could not have been more than 15 customers in the store when I was there. I was terrified to go to the store after my experience at Fry's 2 weeks ago, but was running our of food options, and it turned out to be a surprizingly pleasant experience.Smiley Happy

The Fry's by me has such narrow aisles so I refuse to shop there during this.  The TJs clerks are unfailingly pleasant to deal with.

@Reever, if those are your sources for information, you deserve our sympathy. No wonder you don't have any clue about things outside your own little bubble. Stockpiling $600 in groceries makes you one of the hoarders causing these issues. Many stores are limiting quantities. If someone can't get one to two weeks of groceries delivered, they can't purchase a month's supply.

Re: Grocery Shopping Is Getting Harder

The men on the 'team' in Washington have no clue as to what's going on out in the trenches.  They live in insulated bubbles and have no idea that  toilet paper is virtually unobtainable or that there are severe shortages of needed foods like eggs and flour.  We're suppose  to be clean and sanitized but there are no cleaning products.  They should be assisting farmers and distributors of these products instead of restaurants and non-essential small businesses.

You're right @stevieb , there's not much we can do about the virus but the lack of thought and planning behind the logistics of living is deplorable.  What are people suppose to do who cannot stand in line to wait to enter a grocery store?  And who has a single statistic to show that wearing a dumb home-made mask is going help alleviate the spread of the virus?  They need to make people feel safe and that's the best they can do?

Re: Grocery Shopping Is Getting Harder

I'm with you @Jordan2 .  If they've started that, I won't shop there right now.

Luckily my main grocer is still come as you are.  It's tough for those of us who are still working to be inconvenienced like that as great a reason as it is but when you're limited with time and shorter store hours and senior hours, it just becomes a major hassle to find a good time to go.  So I have and will go without.

I have stocked up pretty well but there's always an incidental or two that makes you need a quick run if you can.

I continue to think it's absolutely abysmal leadership at every level that continues to focus so exclusively on the virus itself, when it's clear there's not much to be done about it other than to let it run its course, but has yet to do ANYTHING to address the fact that we the people cannot get what we need in the way of food and daily essentials. We all realize this is a mammoth issue, but it seems by now that some entity would be empowered to help address the dire need for goods required just to get through the day. Continuing to look so exclusively at the big picture is doing nothing but overwhelming everyone. Break this monster down into smaller pieces and start dealing with those that can be dealt with, like getting food into stores...

I do not think the current powers are capable of such a common sense approach. The greater concern seems to be to appear on stage with daily updates and mixed messages in hopes of receiving praise for a job well done. Late to the party and more concerned with personal admiration than the people.Smiley Sad

The lines at Costco  now are so long that I think they need Porta potty's  out in the parking lot.
