SoCal Bred - Yes! I cry every time I hear this song.  When I was growing up and my mom and I had some hard times, we would sing this song and it would get us through everything.

No. It wasn't James Taylor either, though there was speculation that it was him. She publicly denied it.

Right, Carly said James had the unfortunate experience of actually flying to Nova Scotia around the time the song was released, hence the speculation, but to me, the little I knew about his personality, none of those verses fit James Taylor.

Soooo, it comes down to who would wear an apricot scarf to at least solve the first verse?

David Bowie?

"Whisper words of wisdom, let it be."

I don't know if it's the "greatest one line in a song ever" as you say...but it's a good one, and always makes me feel peaceful and centered. Simple lyric, powerful meaning to me.

Someone left the cake out in the rain

I don't think that I can take it

'Cause it took so long to bake it.

So, here I am back again with three songs I find haunting.

1. Peter Gabriel Mercy Street "Dreaming of Mercy Street I swear they moved that sign Looking for mercy in your daddy's arms"

2. The Beatles She's Leaving Home "She breaks down and cries to her husband Daddy our baby's gone Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly? How could she do this to me"?

3. Bruce Springsteen The River "Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse"
