With regard to concerns over dark chocolate

The issue with dark chocolate isn’t Trader Joe’s specific. Heavy metals are present in the air, water and soil. Some are there naturally, and some are the result of pollution by humans.

There are heavy metals in the food supply, in the air we breathe, and in household products. The concern is limiting exposure below what is believed to be a maximum safe threshold.

There was a study done in Consumer Reports that analyzed heavy metal levels in a variety of dark chocolates. I imagine the different levels in each product tested are largely due to where the cocoa beans were grown and originated, ie., the soil.

The most recent recommendation I read is that you don’t have to eliminate dark chocolate but limit to 1 ounce a day.

Unfortunately, there are many other sources of heavy metals in everyday life. For example, there is still lead in soil from past leaded gasoline use.

Re: With regard to concerns over dark chocolate

Thank you for making a post based on fact.  Some people go off the deep end if they hear something like this.  It's what I call the "sky is falling" syndrome.  I will continue to eat my 1 oz of dark chocolate everyday.  I've been doing it for well over 50 years and no problems.

Since I don't eat 3 pounds of it a day, lI have no concerns with dark chocolate.

Re: With regard to concerns over dark chocolate

I have no concerns about dark chocolate and will consume it daily.  I'm not even concerned about the amount.  I'm sure I have more than 1 oz a day.

My concern about dark chocolate is running out of it.

If I listened to every study done I wouldn't be eating much at all. Everything in moderation.I made it to this age, I'm not worried.

Re: With regard to concerns over dark chocolate

Agree with previous posters.  No way am I giving up my once a day Dove dark chocolate.  I think the air we breath and the water we drink is more lethal.
