I just read an amazing book. I am reading a lot of Y/A lately, since my daughter is a Y/A author. Anyway, we came across this book by word of mouth, so to speak. It is called "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell. I would not really classify this as a Y/A read. Rainbow has 2 books up for a Goodreads awards in Y/A. Semi finals and 2 out of the 10 books were written by her.
I really recommend this book. Don't be deterred because it is categorized as Y/A. It is truly one of the best books I have read. You can go on Goodreads or Amazon and read the reviews. Just wanted to share....

I loved that book. Left me drained. I do not even care to see the movie as IMHO they always ruin the story.

This is good to know, since awhile back I was searching for some books and found them at the library in the Y/A section. I skipped them just because of that. I guess I'll try and remember what I was after back awhile and revisit that area of thought. Thanks ladies.

Michelle, What did your daughter write and what is her author name, if you'd care to share?

That's a bit harsh.
If someone has a problem, I don't think it's Bungo.
Do you mean you don't want to know time or place? A general idea of the story? That's not "too much" to know.
ETA...I've heard of the "Great book!," probably read about it. It didn't interest me enough to even remember anything about it.
Eleanor, 15, is the new girl at school and bullied because she's overweight and dresses in a flamboyant manner. Park is a half-Korean boy who has lived in Omaha, Nebraska, all his life but still feels like an outsider. This is a story of first love, which very slowly builds from the first day Eleanor sits next to Park on the school bus. First they ignore each other, and then they slowly become friends through their love of comic books and 1980s alternative music. Park is the only good thing in Eleanor's life. Her home life is a miserable exercise in trying to stay out of her abusive stepfather's way, and finding new ways to wear the same clothes repeatedly since there is no money for anything extra. Park adores everything about Eleanor, and she finds refuge at his house after school with his understanding parents. Things finally explode at Eleanor's house and Eleanor and Park's relationship is truly tested. The narrative points of view alternate between Eleanor and Park, adding dimension to Rowell's story

Thank you Mishell5 for your book suggestion. The title & author was fine with me & your good recommendation. I can look up the rest if I am interested & I plan to read it. Please post any future recommendations you might have.

This sounds very juvenile, for very young adults. I like more mature reading, such as the NY Times bestseller list types. But there is always a reader for every book and vice verso.
Thanks for posting it though.

I listen to an NPR podcast called ""Pop Culture Happy Hour"" and one of the hosts recommended this book. Thanks for reminding me of it on the forum. It seems to be a trend that YA books are gaining appeal among adult readers.

I agree with you Bungo. We don't need a long synopsis, but a clue like: "historical fiction from the Middle Ages"; "biography of two Mensa kids in the projects"; or a "Coming of age story set in the Midwest" would be helpful. It would prompt more people to then follow up if interested. In this particular case, the title gives no information at all.
Another YA book that is definitely for all ages is The Book Thief.

I don't know if this YA book is any good but I had to buy it because it was only 31 cents on amazon. Remember when sometimes amazon would have books for a penny.
