I do NOT own a credit card and never will. They are a bunch of scheisters! Now my husband has 2 credit cards he uses for emergencies and we use online for holiday shopping. I do have an ATM card with my bank, but I rarely use it anymore because one time at a restaurant I used it as credit and the girl took extra money. And last month a mini market I go to took double out (also on credit). Too many crooks out there. SO now I have been using cash in all local stores.

Fortunately I was able to get the money back, but it was a hassle & really got me to thinking. This latest mess with Target just reinforced my growing fears. I don't like carrying a lot of cash around, either, so use a cross-body bag to help prevent purse-snatching, keep aware of my surroundings, hurry to my car, & lock the doors as soon as I get in. The side benefit to using cash is that it certainly helps curb those impulse purchases!

the looks on the salesperson's face kills me every single time!
People who pay for expensive items with cash are suspected of getting that cash from illegal business like dealing drugs.

Isn't it a shame that no matter which way you go there's a serious downside and all because of rampant dishonesty.

Sorry, but I must disagree. We usually pay cash for everything. We do use credit cards, store cards are paid off right then, if a place won't let you do that, then we forget it. Credit cards if used are paid in full and ahead every month. I'm sure the credit card people don't like us,lol. If we buy something huge we usually have it transferred or to a money order. Debit cards get you with their hidden fees. I can honestly say we are not drug dealers. We basically earn much more than we spend and eventually it adds up very quickly. We're not materialistic, we do like certain things but basically there is a lot left over each month. So not everyone is a drug dealer. So, yes not everyone is drug dealer.

I always carry cash, and it was a good thing today as the phone line was down at my favorite restaurant.
Like bottled water, cash is something we should always have on hand. When the computers go down, you'll need it.

I do, too, but credit/debit cards hurt small businesses if nothing else.

I pay cash now, whenever possible. And as far as the IRS ... how are they going to know? That law mostly applies to car dealerships. As Americans, we still have a few (very few) rights. I can still buy a car from my neighbor, and pay cash. I'm not doing anything illegal.

I have one credit card I use for traveling but I use only cash or debit card for other purchases.
I am wondering what is going on with the announcement that three other stores were also victims of hacking yet they aren't releasing the names of the stores; this sounds like they are not interested in customers being able to take steps to see if their info was stolen.....I would never do any business with these three stores now and I don't even know which ones they are!

If you're going to go through the trouble of buying gift cards but still have enough faith in the system to use those for a particular sum of money then why don't you just go open a checking account with a small amount of money in it that is not in anyway connected to any of your other accounts and use that???
