I was shopping at Target the other day and I asked the cashier if the customers were using their credit cards less. He said, they're paying cash for smaller amounts but still using cards for larger purchases.
If I'm buying something major, I always use a credit card; if something goes wrong, you can always refuse payment till the problem is straightened out. And if the merchant won't cooperate, you can refuse payment permanently and let the merchant take the hit.
In the meantime, I check my bank and credit card statements every day to make sure nothing untoward is happening.

did you have the receipt?

Also, thinking about only using PayPal for my CC charges online!
Hooty, that sounds like a good idea, but I just wonder if the credit card attached to your Paypal account could be compromised even though the payment is going through Paypal? It's the same card either way. Would you happen to know?
Sunny, I've used PayPal for online purchases at checkout but sometimes it's picky and doesn't process the transaction for some reason. There is a disclaimer to this on their terms that they can decline a transaction for any reason they see fit.
I purchased a BestBuy gift card online for my BIL and used PayPal to checkout having it sent as a gift to his address. I waited 3 days for it to ship. Instead, I got a transaction canceled notice. I called Best Buy. They said it was PayPal declining the transaction.
I contacted PayPal and they said they didn't like my BIL's mailing address. For some reason they deemed the address suspicious.
