Nope and rarely did even as a child. Just wasn't that enthralling and I could almost never seem to get them aloft... They are beautiful though.

My town is having a Kite Flying Day at the park today. They picked a good day for it, it's very windy here today.

DH always buys a kite when we go to the OBX. There's almost always a breeze there as well as kite surfers having a great time whether they're Soundside or Oceanside.

When we were growing up and it became kite season, we made our own.....out of newspaper, twigs, and tore up old rags to make the tail.....and then we had to go buy the cord......And yes, they did fly......we had a lot of fun making them and flying them.

If we wanted to fly a kite, had to make it because we didn't have the money to buy one. That was just the way it was way back then.

there are too many tall mature trees to fly kites around our neighborhood, but we used to do it as kids quite a bit.

at the beach it can only be done after 6pm and before 9am.....it cant be during peak beach hours.

I remember the days here in St. Louis when Forest Park was filled with kite flyers....there is quite a bit of open space there......but I don't get there today like I used to, so I don't know if they still do it there or not. Most major metropolitan cities have parks that must have plenty of wide open space that would be good for kite flying.....

Never see kids with kites around here, but with all the going ons downtown today, they were having kite flying for kids. Womens' Final Four, basketball for kids, marathon, and all kinds of fun stuff. Dad and I made our own out of newspapers. Bought the cheap ones for my daughter and hated the silly things. When I have grandkids, we are going to make them MY way. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I love flying kites and take one or more to the beach each time I go. Sadly where I live we don't get enough wind to get most kites up.

If you want to fly a kite that causes a stir, check out the holographic UFO SAM kite. I flew mine down at Myrtle Beach and everyone was pointing to the sky. I finally brought it down as I was worried I would get in trouble with local authorities...

I last flew a kite at the beach. It was a triple and it took two hands. Fun, but not relaxing.

Any lack of kite flying might be due to being unable to find a good place to fly one. Worry about trees, wires, houses and traffic. Unless one lives near some good open space....

We always take a kite when we head to the beach.
