A Woman Without a "Reporting Category"

Last Tuesday we voted to fill some local and county offices and determine two referenda. After voting, a young man in the parking lot who identified himself as a student at the college from a neighboring city asked if I would answer a few questions regarding issues and candidates on the ballot. After a few answers he commented that my opinions don't qualify me to fit into any of his "reporting categories." I asked what the categories are and he stated, "Conservative and Liberal". I told him that he could put me in "the citizen participating in the democratic process" category.

Did he have a ""middle of the road"" category?

Someone should have told him that now it's all about the Independents and how they're voting.

That is so weird. He was trying to put everyone into 2 categories on the left or right, and ignored everyone in the middle? What are they teaching him at this college?

My guess is that if my answers didn't fit into one of his assigned "reporting categories", I wasn't useful for the purpose of his task?

Re: A Woman Without a ""Reporting Category""

Hi, Deep, If his task was to find out the disposition of the voters, he was wrong not to have a nuanced questionnaire.

The media don't really care--they just want a headline; but the pollsters are supposed to care about asking questions that really give information.
