We went to the home show today and ended up purchasing My Fi from Verizon so we can take our wifi on the road with us. Does anyone have this ? Advantages? dis advantages? It is only going to cost us $10/month because we will drop our currant verizon internet at $40/mo and just use this portable one - at least that is our plan.

First I've heard of it but it sounds interesting.

It sounds too good to be true. It seems Verizon would lose many of their internet subscribers in favor of $10@ month Mi Fi.

$10 a month? how much data do you get with that?

it sounds too good to be true.

I have a friend that uses it because it's her only option other than dial-up and I don't know what plan she has but she has to limit herself to maybe an hour a day on the internet.

I should have said that differently, I guess. It will cost us $10 MORE than our current internet service - $50 instead of $40 but this one is portable - we can take it anywhere there is verizon satellite service.

but how much data can you use? i dont think any of the portable plans have unlimited data like a home plan would.

I have this mi-fi unit as I do not have DSL or cable in my area. You can connect up to 5 devices at a time with this. I really love it, but Verizon is just getting so over-priced so I'm going to look into alternatives once my contract is up. I also need a portable internet connection, so I would have to find something similar if I were to switch companies.

I used to have one from Verizon and we loved it for travel. You can use it in the car as you're driving.(not the drive but the passenger). It's very cool. We had unlimited data. We gave it up because we finally got cable internet where we live so I didn't need it anymore. I used it as our primary internet before that. My DH still has one through work so we use his if we need it.

Actually they are called ""MiFi"" or ""5-spot"" It's not ""My Fi""
