I feel her pain if she doesn't have room in freezer. I know every year we get gifted a box from Omaha Steaks full of steaks, burgers, potatoes, etc. first off it's not good and secondly although I'm not appreciative we don't eat the things sent. Well, we do like the apple tarts😉.

I can buy better quality meats at the food store. Last year they gifted us beef wellington with 3 side dishes -- they were mushy and terrible.

I have asked the gifting person to not order this year although we appreciate the thought.

@ScrapHappy, It was a very nice gift. I would have loved it. Does she usually do this sort of thing? If so then I would make a donation to a charity in the future for a gift. Your money would not be wasted and someone or animal that has great need would benefit. I have little no tolerance when someone is rude when they have received a genuine kindness.

If I got that kind of attitude, next year she'd just get a card.

Perhaps she was wanting her son to buy her a freezer, since her complaint wasn't the gift but lack of freezer space for it. Next year, you could send a fruit or dessert of the month. A gift that keeps on giving.

@occasionalrainwhen I first read the OP's Post I thought of an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" when Raymond enrolled his parents in the "Fruit of the Month Club". Marie complained and complained and asked Raymond to make it stop because she can go to the market and buy her own fruit.

That's just plain mean and those pkg deals aren't cheap.

MIL would probably get a gift card from now on. You did a nice gesture, try not to let it bother you, some people are like this and won't change.

I used to get the OS which I loved but had to take them out of the boxes because there are a lot of boxes. That helped a lot, if I needed the directions I went to the website.

Honestly--who among us would welcome a "surprise" freezer full of food? I'll bet not one in ten would be happy to drop everything and find room for it.

So you would NEVER send them anything again? How about just an "oops Woman Embarassed" and a little apology?

It's ok to make a mistake and admit it and learn from it. It saves grief later on.

I would welcome a freezer full of food, seriously! I would not be apologizing to anyone.

Re: Gift Not Well Received

[ Edited ]

Next year, send a few cans of beans and some Poo Pouri. Cans can be stored on a shelf....no refrigeration needed.

I don't like to waste money on presents so I would appreciate knowing that it was not a good choice for her. ***

If she needs the financial help, give her a gift card for her groceries. Otherwise maybe her son, your husband, can pick out a token present🤷🏼‍♀️
