Maybe it depends on who you speak with on the phone? I don't know, but that would make me mad if I knew for a fact they lowered others. I would tell them I wanted to cancel service and see what they said about that.

I told them that- they didn't care.  Smiley Frustrated

As I mentioned above, I had lower-tier cable....never had HBO, Showtime, etc. When I canceled & discontinued cable, my bill was nearly $100.00 per month- as in $1200.00 per year. I thought that was INSANE!

Gee, I wonder what I can do with an extra $1200.00? Smiley Happy   I'll never pay to watch TV ever again. It feels really good to have it out of my life.

low tier cable around here is generally a bit less than $100 a month......and it will include not only cable tv, but phone and internet also.

Re: Getting Cable Bill Lower

If you are going to call in to lower your bill come armed with comparable rates.

I call every single year to prevent an increase.  Before I do I get pricing from all competitors so I go into the negotiation armed.  One time I did have to give up and switch to another provider.  Unfortunately after 10 months with that provider I was furious and switched back - but got a lower rate.

For sports alone we aren't ready to give up on cable.  Tried streaming them but wasn't very happy with the experience.

Nope....it was up to about $97.00 & change....nothing else included at all (Comcast). I checked on a "package" deal a long time ago, & it was outrageous via Comcast.

At this point I don't care at all about any cable or tv, so pricing doesn't matter anymore.

Re: Getting Cable Bill Lower

I was always happy with AT&T but thought they were going to have to call the paramedics when I realized when I moved I was stuck with Comcast again.  They proved true to form:  lousy/sporadic service, high prices, nickle and diming you for absolutely everything.

I live in a condo and apparently there is a DISH antenna on the roof which I plan to take advantage of when my Comcast contract expires.  More channels, a DVR and no paying for extra boxes.

I at first hesitated until a kind soul pointed out I could DVR tons of shows in case I lose service because of weather.   Genius as we lose service around here on the best of days.  If you live in a multi-unit building, you may want to see if they have a receiver as the cost is so much less and you get so much more.

We called last year and were told there is no discount for anyone for any reason. We also have Spectrum and used to have Time Warner.  We told them we were not going to be able to keep service and they did not care one bit. The man said oh ok! lol.

They also do not offer promotions any longer unless you are new!

You would really think this company would do what it could to keep customers and keep them happy! Many people I know are dropping cable.

The bill keeps going up and we are not happy but unless we get rid of cable and go another way, nothing we can do about it!

If we all had the same opinion or everyone was the same. the world would be a very boring place!

@HouseMouse, I have Spectrum too, they know they've got you by the you know whats! I'm not interested in getting satellite so in my area where I live it's either Spectrum or Fios, that's it. A choice of two is not much of a choice at all.

@Goodie2shoes

I have Spectrum and am electronically-challenged. I don't even know how to download - anything. So - I'm stuck.

Re: Getting Cable Bill Lower

I called back on two different days. Said the same thing as before! The guy said there was not a way he could find to lower the bill and a few days later a lady said the same thing.  If you have not had the Internet in the past 30 days you could get it for around $14.99!!  But not sure if that would go up later.

Both said no promos, that Time Warner had but they dont unless you are a new customer. So guess it is suck it up and keep!! Dont want to be without cable, DVR, Internet. They know that most people will just shut up and pay it!ThankYouEasterBunnyEggsAni-vi.gif

Our choice here is Spectrum or some type of satellite. We did have DirectTV for years but the same thing happens.  We were under a cheap intro. package for 2 years and once that was over, the bill went up and up and up.  They refused to do anything to keep us so I dropped and we got an intro rate with TimeWarner.

We have looked into dropping cable but we'd have to keep the internet which is $70.00 a month. By the time we'd get other services to get our local channels and the channels we watch on a regular basis, we really wouldn't be saving much at all.

Re: Getting Cable Bill Lower

I too have been facing difficulty with this issue.  My promotional rate for new customers dropped off and I was promised 2 years ago that all I had to do was call and get new discounts added back.  No such luck.  Instead, my bill went up as would be expected when a promotional rate ends.  I was told to get rid of my showtime, hbo etc to lower my bill when what I really wanted to do was get rid of my landline and like another here was told, my bill would go up not down.  Landline is staying against our wishes.  Will have to check out other avenues.
