Recently I saw a video of him with James Corden. I would not have recognized him. The years have not been kind to him. From time to time there would be articles in tabloids about his health. It makes me wonder if there was some truth to them.
May he RIP and may all who loved him find comfort in the many recordings he left behind.
The Corden video was his first carpool karaoke segment back in 2011! George had a major medical scare in December of that year as well.

My best decade of teaching was that of the 80's. I also traveled to Britain three times during that decade. And the hottest pop act in Britain and in the U.S. during the 80's was first Wham and then George Michael's solo career. He was only 17 when he wrote Careless Whisper, which signaled the end of Wham and the beginning of George Michael the solo artist. He defined pop music at that interval. I saw his Faith concert here in Seattle. It was basically just George, his backup band, and the audience. His voice and stage presence were impeccable. I have ALL of his music, including a cover of Sammy Davis Junior's Feelin Good. My favorite of all of George's music Is One More Try. His voice became deeper and richer as time went by, but he was always spot on. I was looking forward to his new album that he was to work on in 2017. He wrote, produced, and performed the music. In addition, he was a philanthropist, giving back his own good fortune. Rest in Peace, George. I'm going to be listening to your music with misty eyes. You are done too soon.

That could be a complication of AIDS.
He had pneumonia several years ago when he was doing concerts in Austria. They had to perform a traech on him, and he was in intensive care, but he pulled through. It was not the type of pneumonia associated with AIDS. The cause of death here was given as heart failure. Could be related to drug use, or possibly genetic predisposition. We'll have to wait and see.

I read he died of a heart attack, very young at age 53!
His song "Careless Whisper", was my DH's & my song when we met and married in 1984/1985, really sad! I also read where he did lots of things for charities!![]()

@CareBears So glad you did defy the odds. My dad had a heart attack and six bypass surgery when he was 50. He will be 75 on his birthday next month!![]()

I wonder if this will prompt Elton John to write a song for his friend George? That would be nice.

I just heard he died of heart failure. It's amazing how many professional musicians and actors in their 40s, 50s and 60s have died in the past year of heart disease. Years of drug and body abuse seem to have a way of catching up to people.
George Michael touched just about every genre of music- rock, pop and soul. He even sang with Tony Bennett. I think he jsut missed rap!
In his first Wham album, he actually did a rap/musical song called Wham Rap (Enjoy Yourself). Not really his genre, though.

@Ibby114@ and @lulu2 - I have spent waaay too much time watching George Michaels on Youtube - last night and this afternoon - I have to set my phone alarm so I don't 'indulge' in too much sadness.
The ORIGINAL Carpool Karaoke was indeed the 2011 - and they both carry on hilariously and the singing was spot on. I died when I saw that volvo station wagon.
If you get time listen to 'Praying for Time' - in one of Corden's posts he referenced this song.

He had a medical scare with pneumonia back in December 2011. Whatever it was currently - I read heart failure and he died in his sleep. What a blessing for George.....
