I’ve lived in the south.....Atlanta..... for almost 49 years. I’ve never hosted a garden party, been to a garden party, known anyone who has ever been to or given a garden party.

Here, as with elsewhere, we call them cookouts.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I love cookouts (or barbeques, whatever they're called regionally).  But garden parties are not cookouts.  They're completely different.

Have been to several garden parities...but where I live they are rarely called that anymore...in the spring we have small weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, graduation parties....when the whether is beautiful and the flowers are coming out at their best...mostly ladies only but the grad parties and weddings include the dads...nicely dressed in jackets but no ties..ladies in dresses of any length...usually maxis....and fancy iced drinks with fruit in them....light but elegant food....

----Just hosted and attended my own garden party.

Wanted to admire the herbs I had just planted.

Dined on elegant but simple fare---chobani with kind cereal on top. Perfect.
