Yes, Mini is fine.  I think mine say that too.  TP-Link and Kasa are the same company.  I can't remember exactly but seems like one is sold in another country???  Something like that but they're the same.

I TOTALLY have a specific recommendation. GOOGLE.  Who better to ask questions of than the world leader in the question-answering field Smiley Happy  You just won't have a speaker to use for home automation, you'll have a music player and answers to all your burning questions and those hard to figure out math questions like 2+2= or measurement conversions, set multiple timers, how long does it take to drive to ???, flights, and more.  If you really want to be amazed, get a 2nd generation Google Nest Hub.  You can get one of those for around $75 right now but they'll be deeply discounted on Black Friday.

If you buy the Mini (hockey puck), you can sit it on your counter.  I

have 5 and like to keep them off the counters.  That's where the "jacket" comes in.  Then they plug right into a wall outlet.  Two of my Minis are outside.  Surely before too long the weather will be cool enough for us to build a fire in the pasture and have the Mini playing our favorite 70s music Smiley Happy  Knowing what I know now and what all I can do with it, I'd skip the hockey puck and go with the 7" Nest Hub but I understand getting your feet wet first with the puck.

If you are getting these for lights, you have another option. You still have to have the Google speaker but you could opt for smart light bulbs. Again my favorite is the tp-link /Kasa brand. The lamp in my bedroom has two bulbs that can be turned on and off individually. I have Smart bulbs in that lamp so no need for smart plug.  Technically they offer 65 million colors but that's ridiculous. I'm pretty sure the human eye can't see 65 million colors . It's probably more like 65. And they can Shine from 1 to 100%. Or you can buy a Lifx bulb that can have effects.  I have a LIFX bulb on the front porch that is currently Orange with a flickering flame effect.  LIFX is not a no drama light bulb tho. I can talk about smart home gadgets all night (g).

Here's another gadget.  But there's bunches of this particular kind of gadget on Amz.  This below one has a S&H attached to it, whereas others dont.

Suggest:  Shop for yours.

Apparently this gadget works for Cantaloupes, Papayas, Pineapples, etc

(BTW, I split large watermelons (& cabbages) in half with an Electric Knife.)

I have this.  I would not recommend. It's doesn't work really well.  It's kinda dull. I prefer to just use a knife.

Thank you so much @monicakm  Woman Happy

I've had the need.  Moreso even now, here.

I cant even tell you the embarassing technical solutions I came up with before I read your original Tecki Solution above, again, & asked you more technical questions  !

Let's just say, I was looking over Alexander Graham Bell's shoulder, listening to him, think out loud!   *sigh*  And then, I even pulled out my purse!           Woman Wink

I love smart bulbs!

Awhile back, I had a basic level of smart bulbs, from either of these Shopping Channels here.  Cant remember which channel.  They worked for about 2 minutes, when they were supposed to be smart,  then never were either smart, or even stoopid again.  heh  Pitched them!  Then, was a bust.  But always wished!

Was so long ago, i think, that it might have been infancy of that technology.  So Im excited with advances here!

OH   @Carmie  Woman Happy

Thank you for the feedback about that Watermelon Cutter!  I wondered about that gadget!

I love, love watermelon, and eat it until it's hardly pink any more, & just about lacking flavor.  I have two small containers of it in the Fridge right now.

I would have probably considered this Watermelon cutter.  On paper, the theory sounds good.  But, lacking sharpness, nope, no way, NOT good!

Well enjoy your entry into  smart home devices but remember you have to have a smart speaker before you can use your smart plugs.

Hi @monicakm

Happy Wednesday!   Woman Very Happy

I wonder, if once all these electronics are set up, could a sort of "First Alert" (&/or, example "911" mechanism) be connected, so that no matter where a person is in their home, they can YELL  "HELP" or "911"  and it connects to a desired form of solicited HELP?  (versus those special services, & pushing that button supposedly on yr body or nearby)

(That button sure didnt help my Dad, found on the living room floor after an ungodly amt of time.  Shocked he even survived it, w/o being hospitalized or worse.  ex, A part of him was never the same after that).

Seems to me this scenario would be optimum - merely yelling "HELP!"  or "911"  to get HELP, (or some secret word that invading Perps or Robbers wouldnt know).

Personally, I would LOVE to have, & would definitely set up this safety feature, for myself!
