I just tried to log in to DoorDash's website to place a food order.  It said they had to verify that it's really me, so I need to enter a verification code and will text it to the phone number that is on my account.

Well, I am a dinosaur and when I created my DoorDash account, I used my (gasp!)  LANDLINE phone number, which obviously doesn't receive text messages.  So, I need to change the phone number on my account to my cellphone number instead of my landline number.

WELL, I just spent the last hour attempting to do just this.  The website won't let me in because I don't have the 6 digit code that they've sent to my landline.  And the only way I can reach my account to change my phone number is to log in to my account.  But I can't log into my account because I need to enter the 6 digit code they sent to my landline.

I called the number they listed for help.  They spent an hour trying to figure out how to get me into my account so I can change the phone number.  I spoke with 2 different people and they could not figure out how to get me access to my account without the 6-digit verification code.  They can't change the phone number from their end, and they can't send the code to my email, either. It can only be sent to the phone number on record--which is my landline number.

They have no idea what to do. So, the final answer is--they need to refer this problem to their Engineering Department who is supposed to call me back today.

What a Catch-22!  This is a stupid problem, I know.  I guess I just need to stop using my landline number completely, for anything.  I have just been using my cellphone when I am not at home, but I guess this dinosaur had better get into the 21st century and get rid of my landline once and for all and use only my celllphone.

Thank you very much for letting me vent!

Can't you just open a new account?

Don't stress yourself out over this! If you want the app, just create a new account with a different email.

I am like you held off for as long as possible in getting a cell phone .The kids bought me 1 .They think I should always have it with me so when they call I can pick it up .

But not into that yet I forget it all the time and leave it behind .

Slowly I will get there .

@DottieBlue    You have my sympathy as I've run into that kind of situation too. If you use a landline for anything you're scr*ewed.

Have them send the code to your home phone.  What's the worst that can happen - you don't get a phone call with the code?

Either that, or just open an entirely new account.  Or call the restaurant and have them do delivery.  They are losing money through DoorDash and the likes.

If you want to you can search a thread I started about this happening to me with Amazon.  Amazon has done this to me as well as Instacart.  I do have texting ability though whenever I log on sometimes they want to "verify" me.

You have caring kids.  Isn't it amazing how protective kids get?  Pretty soon you'll be texting.

I've not done any of these food delivery services, but other things I do offer a choice of emailing.   I do that with  most because I just don't give everybody my cell ph#.     Usually have to really pay attention to the small print, though, to see what the choices are.

Everybody wants your cell#, then you end up with getting spammed, advertising, solicitations, etc, and I'm just not up for that.  I don't begrudge it others.

For me, if a service that I don't want to give my cell# to doesn't offer another choice then I move to somebody else.   I think a lot of these now days, however, are pretty much 'apps' so people do it through their cell ph# and I think that it is often assumed that any ph# given is a cell.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there would be a phone call.  It would just text the info and, since it's a landline, you just don't get anything.  That's been my experience in this sort of thing, anyway, FWIW.  Smiley Happy
