I stand behind you 100% on that. I will always honor our flag and National Anthem which so many gave their lives for to protect. God Bless America, my home sweet home.

God Bless America
Land that I love.
Stand beside Her and guide Her
Through the night with a light from above.

America has been through many difficult times in its history, hasn't it. The disaster in Texas, as horrible and life-changing as it has been for so many, I think has shown us, in part, what we're made of. There are certain ideals we all subscribe to, no matter our other differences. We are united in our love for America and those cherished ideals.

The flag was first authorized by Congress June 14, 1777. This date is now observed as Flag Day throughout America.
The flag was first flown from Fort Stanwix, on the site of the present city of Rome, New York, on August 3, 1777.
It was first under fire for three days later in the Battle of Oriskany, August 6, 1777.

August 3rd. . . . September 3rd. . . . the important thing is to honor the flag and our Country, and to be proud of both, today and every day of your life. We need to begin to see ourselves, and every one of our citizens, as Americans, and stop focusing on our differences.
Hugs. . .

I just hope other families will get the same opportunity your grandparents were given. I think this country was more accepting years ago. When you think about it immigrants and slaves built this country.

What a beautiful sentiment, Q-girl. I'm only second-generation American, with my grandparents coming here. We do need to come together as one people. The tragedy in Houston this week showed people from all walks of life working together to help each other. It was truly inspiring. The last time I remember anything of that nature was when members of Congress gathered on the steps of Capitol Hill and together sang "God Bless America" after the 9/11 terror attack. I was so happy to see that show of unity and resolve from our leaders at such an upsetting time. We need more of this kind of unity, as you said.
